Apparatus and methods for accessing the lymphatic system

Systems and methods are provided for performing a medical procedure within a patient's body that involves a thoracic duct including an ostium communicating with the patient's venous system. A distal end of a catheter is introduced through the patient's venous system into a body lumen adjacent the ostium of the thoracic duct. An expandable member on the distal end of the tubular member may be expanded adjacent the ostium, e.g., within the body lumen or the thoracic duct itself, and used to isolate the thoracic duct from the body lumen, whereupon a medical procedure may be performed via the thoracic duct. For example, lymphatic fluid may be removed from the thoracic duct through a lumen of the tubular member and/or one or more agents may be introduced into the thoracic duct through the tubular member.

The chambers are each connected with a first flow tube through which a fluid is provided to the chamber and a second flow tube through which a fluid of the chamber is discharged therefrom. The flow control unit controls a flow through the flow tubes connected to the multiple fluid chambers.

Method for controlling a disinfection status of a temperature control device and temperature control device for human body temperature control during extracorporeal circulation
RE049629 · 2023-08-29 · ·

The present application relates to a method for controlling a disinfection status of a heater and/or cooler for human body temperature control during extracorporeal circulation. The temperature control is conducted by use of a heat exchanger and a temperature control liquid circulating through the heat exchanger and the heater and/or cooler. The inventive method comprises using a long term disinfectant in the temperature control liquid, measuring and preferably recording the concentration of the disinfectant in the temperature control liquid and deducing a disinfectant status of the temperature control liquid from the measured concentration of the disinfectant in the temperature control liquid.

System and method of using frequency analysis to monitor flow rates
11338076 · 2022-05-24 · ·

A system for controlling a fluid procedure comprising a reusable separation apparatus controlled by a microprocessing controller. A sterile circuit is configured to associate with the reusable separation apparatus and provide a first fluid flow path in association with a pressure sensor in communication with the controller and a first pump configured to transmit pulsatile pressure signals to the pressure sensor during operation in association with the first fluid flow path. The reusable apparatus and the controller are configured to receive from the pressure sensor pressure signals comprising the pulsatile pressure signals, perform a frequency analysis of the pressure signals received by the pressure sensor over a time duration, derive a first rotation rate of the first pump or a first fluid flow rate at the first pump from the frequency analysis, and provide a response action based on the first rotation rate or the first fluid flow rate.

Medical device leak sensing devices, methods, and systems

Features for protecting against leaks in a fluid circuit are disclosed. In an embodiment, a first indicator of a leak is used to trigger confirmation by blood flow reversal and air detection in the blood circuit. A method for performing a blood treatment includes, at blood treatment machine, pumping blood to a patient through a first blood line. Further, at a controller of the blood treatment machine, a first signal is received, indicating a probability of a leak in the first blood line. Responsively to the first signal, the controller commands a leak verification operation and receives a second signal indicating whether a leak in the first blood line is verified. Further, a leak indicating signal is generated if the second signal indicates a leak is verified.
