SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INTERIOR ENERGY-ACTIVATION FROM AN EXTERIOR SOURCE
20180304225 · 2018-10-25 · ·

A method and a system for producing a change in a medium. The method places in a vicinity of the medium at least one energy modulation agent. The method applies an initiation energy to the medium. The initiation energy interacts with the energy modulation agent to directly or indirectly produce the change in the medium. The system includes an initiation energy source configured to apply an initiation energy to the medium to activate the energy modulation agent.

Methods for inducing the differentiation of blood monocytes into functional dendritic cells
10087418 · 2018-10-02 · ·

Methods are provided for treating blood monocytes to produce functional antigen presenting dendritic cells. An extracorporeal quantity of a subject's blood is treated to separate the blood and produce a leukocyte concentrate comprising monocytes and plasma containing proteins. The leukocyte concentrate comprising monocytes and plasma containing proteins is pumped through a plastic treatment device, such as a photopheresis device. The resulting treated cells may be incubated for a sufficient period of time to allow the monocytes to form dendritic cells, or the treated cells may be reinfused directly to the subject.

System and method for detecting minimum hematocrit with irradiation receivers during extracorporeal photopheresis
10088492 · 2018-10-02 ·

An irradiation device for photopheresis, comprising an exposure chamber configured to receive an illumination container holding a target cell suspension, an irradiation transmitter configured to irradiate the illumination container and target cell suspension, an irradiation receiver configured to detect absorption of radiation from the irradiation transmitter, and a processing circuit coupled to the irradiation receiver and configured to determine whether a hematocrit of the target cell suspension exceeds a predetermined threshold hematocrit and to treat the target cell suspension with a treatment dosage of radiation if the predetermined threshold is exceeded.

PHOSPHOR COMPOSITION HAVING SELECTED SURFACE COATINGS

A phosphor composition, containing one or more phosphors having on a surface thereof a coating selected from silica, diamond, and diamond-like carbon, wherein the one or more phosphors are configured to emit radiation upon interaction with an initiation energy.

Galectin-3 plasmapheresis therapy
12109346 · 2024-10-08 · ·

A system and method for the practice of apheresis employs modules in the system which can be selected for a particular patient to treat particular situations or combinations of difficulties. In one example, Gal-3 mediates a large number of body reactions, and is an effective protector of tumor microenvironments and the like, as well inflammation driver. Removal of Gal-3 may make antic-cancer treatments, like photopheresis and TNF administration more effective. Separate modules, such as one for photopheresis and one for TNF receptor removal, may be combined with a module for the reduction of Gal-3, to render the combination of treatments each more effective than if administered alone.

Polychromatic phototherapy device and method
12083260 · 2024-09-10 ·

A polychromatic phototherapy device for blood treatment including a casing having a triple quartz tube cuvette assembly removably installed in the casing, with blood to be treated passing through the cuvette. A plurality of light sources are mounted in the casing adjacent the cuvette to project focused light onto the blood flowing through the cuvette. The light sources include a dual wavelength UVA light source, a UVC light source, and dual wavelength red, an amber, a green and a blue LED light sources. Each of the LED light sources includes a lens assembly that projects a concentrated, highly focused linear light beam on one of the quartz tubes of the cuvette through which the blood is flowing. Once blood has been withdrawn from a patient and treated in the polychromatic phototherapy device, the blood is reinfused back into the patient.

Therapeutic and diagnostic probes

The present invention provides compositions and methods of use of nanoparticle-based probes for in vivo imaging and therapy. The probes can be used to track diseased target cells by non-invasive imaging in the near-infrared range. Additionally, the probes can induce cell death of the target cells via photodynamic treatment.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COLLECTING MONONUCLEAR CELLS HAVING A SUITABLE HEMATOCRIT FOR EXTRACORPOREAL PHOTOPHERESIS
20180214626 · 2018-08-02 ·

A system for collecting MNCs to be treated with irradiation comprises a fluid circuit comprising a product container for receiving a MNC product. The system comprises a separator to work in association with the fluid circuit, the separator comprising a chamber for separation into RBCs, plasma, and an interface carrying MNCs between the RBCs and the plasma. A microprocessor-based controller is in communication with the separator, wherein the controller receives input of a target hematocrit for the MNC product. The controller also receives input for a total volume of whole blood and a number of cycles, and directs the interface and a portion of the RBCs into the product container for a resulting product volume comprising a volume of MNCs and a volume of RBCs. The controller automatically adjusts a RBC volume so that a ratio of RBCs within the MNC product to MNC product equals the target hematocrit.

System and method for damaging viruses
