CASSETTE DESIGN AND SYSTEMS AND METHODS THEREOF
A system for a surgical system is disclosed, comprising a surgical cassette, comprising a cassette for use with a surgical console, further comprising a first set of fluid channels having a first set of ports, a second set of fluid channels having a second set of ports, at least one rotary valve in fluid communication with the first set of fluid channels, at least one rotary valve in fluid communication with the second set of fluid channels, and a plurality of deformable channels, wherein the deformable channels are fluidly connected to ones of the first set of ports and second set of ports.
SYSTEM LEVEL FLUIDICS AND CONTROLS
A pressure and vacuum pump including at least two diaphragm pump heads for providing vacuum and pressure simultaneously. The dual function pump reduces number of required pumps, is traditionally quieter, and enables the system to run at a lower duty cycle. A drive in the pump housing causes a connecting rod to oscillate a diaphragm to move up and down thereby causing air to be either drawn into an inlet or forced out via an exhaust.
PHACOEMULSIFICATION CIRCUIT
Disclosed is a surgical instrument directed to phacoemulsification for cataract eye surgery. The instrument generally includes a dual frequency voltage producing circuit comprising a low-frequency voltage pathway with a low-frequency LC Network and a high-frequency voltage pathway with a high-frequency LC network. A phacoemulsification needle extends from a handpiece able to be driven by a piezoelectric transducer. The piezoelectric transducer is electrically connected to the dual frequency voltage producing circuit. The high-frequency voltage pathway is electrically tuned with the physical high natural frequency of the handpiece and the low-frequency voltage pathway is electrically tuned with the physical low natural frequency of the handpiece for efficient transfer of energy.
MANUAL CLOT ASPIRATION AND FILTRATION SYSTEM AND METHOD OF REMOVING A CLOT
A manual clot aspiration and filtration system enables a method of removing a clot without general anesthesia and the expense of an operating room. An aspiration and filtration system for bodily fluid utilizes a syringe coupled with a filter unit to draw bodily fluid through the filter unit to collect debris on the filter. A flow valve may then be turned and the plunger depressed to force the filtered fluid back into the body. The filter may be configured to capture particles such as blood clots and plaque. The filter unit has a cover that can be removed for inspection and/or removal of the collected debris. When the cover is replaced, trapped air may be removed by turning the flow-valve to a purge direction and pressing the plunger into the syringe to force fluid back toward the filter unit to purge the trapped air through the purge valve.
TAPERED STRUCTURE IN A PHACOEMULSIFICATION DEVICE FOR NODE PLACEMENT
Disclosed is a surgical instrument directed to phacoemulsification for cataract eye surgery. The instrument generally includes a hollow titanium needle extending from a vibration generating handpiece. Together, the hollow needle and handpiece form an aspiration pathway to suck cataractous debris from an eye. A piezoelectric transducer in the handpiece generates both high and low ultrasonic frequency vibrations that rings the needle. The low frequency produces a node-free standing wave along the needle and the high frequency produces a standing wave along the needle with a node of minimum amplitude along the needle. Both frequencies produce a high anti-node at the needle's tip. The low frequency causes higher cavitation for emulsifying the cataract and the high frequency facilitates fragmentation of the cataract with a low heat portion of the needle at the eye incision point. The placement of the node along the needle can be tailored by way of a tapered section in a step horn region of the handpiece.
VACUUM POWERED SALINE INJECTION SYSTEM
A method and apparatus for injecting saline into an open cavity of a patient's body, and, alternatively, vacuuming fluids from said cavity during laparoscopic surgery that provides constant feed and amplified pressure to provide a steady fluid output, in a disposable, single use handheld surgical device.
Wound treatment apparatus and method
An apparatus and method for aspirating, irrigating and/or cleansing wounds is provided. The apparatus and method include one or more of the following: simultaneous aspiration and irrigation of the wound, supplying of thermal energy to fluid circulated through the wound; supplying physiologically active agents to the wound; a biodegradable scaffold in contact with the wound bed; and application of stress or flow stress to the wound bed.
Handpiece for cleaning wounds
A handpiece for cleansing wounds with a fluid jet includes a main body, which has a front end with an emergence opening for the emergence of the fluid jet, wherein a porous body is present on the front end, which porous body surrounds the emergence opening and protrudes beyond the latter in the direction of the fluid jet outlet and forms a space through which the fluid jet can pass unimpeded. The handpiece according to the invention combines the advantages of cleansing by a fluid jet with the advantages of mechanical cleansing and, at the same time, provides effective protection against aerosols.
Surgical cassette
A surgical cassette for use with a phacoemulsification system having a front plate, a back plate, and a gasket therebetween. The front plate having molded fluid channels that mate with the gasket. The gasket having multiple valves and a sensor or diaphragm accessible through the back plate.
Occlusion-activated heat suppression infusion sleeve
Described is a phacoemulsification device for eye surgery that generally comprises an ultrasonically vibrating aspiration needle that withdraws ocular material from inside of the eye. The ocular material withdrawn from the eye is equally replaced with irrigation fluid provided through irrigation ports in an irrigation sleeve surrounding the aspiration needle. In the event the aspiration needle stops withdrawing ocular material, such as if it becomes occluded with a chunk of ocular material, irrigation fluid is directed to the outside of the eye via at least one irrigation aperture to keep the eye cool where the needle is ultrasonically vibrating.
