TISSUE RETRACTOR
A devise for retracting or opening a tissue wound employs two retractor arms that do not enter or penetrate into the wound. The retractor arms engage the tissue on either side of the wound and apply outward pressure on the tissue surface to open the wound.
PHACOEMULSIFICATION HANDLE WITH SENSOR AND SURGE CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD
An ultrasonic phacoemulsification handpiece with a sensor and a surge control system and a method. The central aspiration lumen of the ultrasonic phacoemulsification handpiece consists of two components of plug-in loose fit: a fixed lumen and an extension lumen; a small pressure sensor is mounted on the extension lumen, but still able to keep the easy-to-use size and maintain the ultrasonic performance of the handpiece. The extension lumen minimizes the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the sensor while maintaining sufficient stiffness for installing and removing the phacoemulsification tip. The design of the handpiece transducer reduces the effect of this sensor installation on the ultrasonic performance. For ultrasonic phacoemulsification cataract removal surgery, the short distance from the pressure sensor to the surgical site provides a technical solution for reliably controlling the risk of the post occlusion surge.
Ergonomic Tubing Attachment for Medical Apparatus
An ergonomic attachment system for connecting an irrigation tube or an aspiration tube to a surgical handpiece that reduces surgeon wrist fatigue due to tubing twist. The tube is connected to the handpiece through a swivel joint which allows the tube to rotate circumferentially with respect to the handpiece and self-adjust to a neutral position to relieve the twist.
Transformer irrigation/aspiration device
In various embodiments, a cannula device includes an irrigation handpiece portion (with a first aspiration tip for aspiration and an irrigation fluid outlet for irrigation) and an aspiration handpiece portion (configured to aspirate fluid into a second aspiration tip that extends from a distal end of the aspiration handpiece portion). The cannula device is transformable between: (a) a coaxial mode in which the aspiration handpiece portion is coupled to the irrigation handpiece portion such that fluid is aspirated through the first aspiration tip and then the second aspiration tip in series and irrigation fluid is provided through the irrigation fluid outlet, and (b) a bimanual mode in which the aspiration handpiece portion is separated from the irrigation handpiece portion to provide aspiration through the second aspiration tip while the irrigation handpiece portion continues to provide irrigation fluid through the irrigation fluid outlet.
DEVICE FOR LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY
A surgical device which combines cautery and tissue debris conveyance via a combination of suction and an Archimedes screw, the cautery electrode encased within the Archimedes screw, the device comprising a device body housing a motor for rotating the screw, a cannula having an aperture for exposing an instrument, extending from the body portion, and a connector system operatively associated with the body portion, the connector system organized to provide pre-determined relative locations of connection for operably connecting the cannula, a cautery electrode and an Archimedes screw to the device body such the cautery electrode tip is positionable outside the aperture of the cannula and the Archimedes screw is disposed within the cannula in a position for conveying tissue entering the cannula via suction.
SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING FLUID DRAINAGE
A low-cost and simple-to-use system and method to facilitate a prophylactic pleural lavage protocol at the time of thoracostomy tube placement for traumatic hemothorax in order to reduce the need for secondary intervention for the management of retained hemothorax. The invention may be used in conjunction with existing chest tubes and be administered at the time of initial chest tube placement, and continued at the bedside (by a bedside nurse) over the duration of chest drainage, as necessary. The system includes an operator device that semi-automatically administers a pleural lavage protocol consisting of saline instillation, and suction to slow the clotting process, prevent “gelling” of blood, and maintain drainability.
MITIGATING PRESSURE PULSE IN VACUUM LINE USING A PRESSURE WAVE DAMPER
A system for controlling aspiration of a phacoemulsification system having (i) a device that is coupled with an aspiration line of the phacoemulsification system to regulate flow in the aspiration line, and (ii) a pressure wave damper, which is fluidly coupled with the aspiration line and includes an elastic element, the elastic element configured to undergo a change in shape in response to a pressure pulse created by the device, so as to suppress an amplitude of the pressure wave before the pressure pulse reaches the eye.
Simulation systems and methods for ultrasound guided regional anesthesia
An embodiment includes a system comprising: an artery, a vein, and a nerve; a first length of tubing adjacent at least one of the vein, artery, and nerve; a second length of tubing to couple to the first length of tubing; and a pump comprising a number of actuators; wherein when the system when operating is configured such that (b)(i) the second length of tubing couples to at least one of the number of actuators, (b)(ii) ends of the first and second lengths of tubing are closed, (b)(iii) a second end of the first length of tubing is operatively coupled to a second end of the second length of tubing, (b)(v) the pump pulsates fluid within the first length of tubing in response to the number of actuators intermittently contacting the second length of tubing.
OCULAR SURGICAL WORK TIP ADAPTER
An adapter for a surgical hand piece with a single lumen work tip converts the handpiece to infusion/aspiration (I/A) cleanup of lens epithelial cells in the capsular bag of the eye a patient after phacoemulsification. The adapter is in the form of a sleeve whose proximal end is to be joined to the distal end of work tip. The sleeve also has at least one aspiration hole located toward the distal end of the sleeve.
PLEURAL DRAINAGE SET AND PLEURAL DRAINAGE METHOD
A single use pleural drainage set for medical use, which allows drainage by all physicians of air (pneumothorax), blood (hemothorax) and all other liquids (hydrothorax) accumulated abnormally in the thoracic cavity (pleural space (I)).
