SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR POST-OCCLUSION SURGE MITIGATION
According to certain embodiments, a surgical cassette for an ophthalmic surgical system comprises an irrigation conduit that is in fluid communication with a handpiece and carries fluid toward a surgical site. An aspiration conduit is in fluid communication with the handpiece and carries fluid away from the surgical site. An aspiration pump creates a vacuum pressure in the aspiration conduit to draw fluid through the aspiration conduit towards a drain reservoir. A reservoir couples with a pressure-vacuum source to manage the reservoir pressure. A valve is in fluid communication with the aspiration conduit and the reservoir, and provides one or more channels between the aspiration conduit and the reservoir. Each sensor detects a pressure associated with the surgical site. A computer controls the valve in response to the pressure detected by the one or more pressure sensors to mitigate a pressure or volume change.
SURGICAL HANDPIECE, LIQUID EJECTING APPARATUS, AND ASPIRATION APPARATUS
A surgical handpiece includes a housing gripped by a user; an aspirating flow path member that is accommodated in the housing, and aspirates a liquid; and an aspiration pipe that is held by the housing, and is connected to the aspirating flow path member via interference fitting so as to aspirate the liquid. At least one of the aspirating flow path member and the aspiration pipe includes a sealing portion for realizing the interference fitting, which is bulged toward a mating member of the interference fitting.
SURGICAL HANDPIECE, LIQUID EJECTING APPARATUS, AND ASPIRATION APPARATUS
A surgical handpiece includes a housing gripped by a user, and an aspiration pipe that is attachably and detachably held by the housing and aspirates a liquid.
SUCTION AND IRRIGATION APPARATUS
A suction and irrigation apparatus includes: a handle having a mounting space therein; an insertion unit extending from the handle and inserted into a patient's abdominal cavity; and a suction and supply unit disposed in the mounting space and supplying an irrigation fluid to the insertion unit or suctioning blood or other contaminated fluids from the patient's abdominal cavity through the insertion unit.
Devices and Methods for Transnasal Irrigation or Suctioning of the Sinuses
An irrigation catheter for the treatment of the sinus anatomy is described. The catheter comprises a proximal portion, a rigid middle portion, and a flexible distal portion. The flexible distal portion comprises an irrigation tip and the proximal portion has a stiffness that is intermediate the stiffness of the rigid middle portion and the flexible distal portion. The irrigation tip has a tip opening and one or more radially facing openings. A method for irrigating or suctioning the sinus anatomy includes inserting an irrigation catheter into a patient's anatomy and irrigating or suctioning a target space.
Tip Detection Apparatus and Method for Medical Device
An apparatus and method of detecting an interchangeable tip of a handpiece of an ocular surgical system is disclosed. The interchangeable tip of the system includes an irrigation port that receives fluid flowing from an irrigation source and an aspiration port that removes or aspirates fluid and/or materials from the surgical field, in particular a patient's eye, through use of an aspiration source or pump. The method comprises attaching the interchangeable tip to the handpiece, introducing fluid flow into the system and determining the fluid flow rate of fluid flow in the system, determining the pressure of fluid flowing into the interchangeable tip, determining the pressure of fluid flowing out of the interchangeable tip and comparing the flow rate and pressure information to known flow rate and pressure readings of known types of interchangeable tips to determine the type of interchangeable tip being used.
Method and system for treating arthritis
Provided is an arthritis treatment method and an arthritis treatment system which can be effective for the short-term attainment of a pain relief effect. An arthritis treatment method includes an instrument introducing step of causing at least one instrument having a tubular shape to communicate with a lesion area in which crystal-induced arthritis occurs, and a treatment step of removing a causative agent of the crystal-induced arthritis from the lesion area by perfusion and discharge of a lavage fluid through the instrument.
OPHTHALMOSURGICAL SYSTEM
The invention is directed to an ophthalmosurgical system which includes a console for accommodating an irrigation fluid vessel containing irrigation fluid and a cassette, insertable into the console, for directing the irrigation fluid to a surgical instrument for an eye to be treated. An irrigation fluid flow path leads from the irrigation fluid vessel to the cassette and to the surgical instrument. A first fluid pump includes a first pump chamber having a first volume and a first drive chamber separated therefrom by a first elastic partition and having a second volume. A second fluid pump is arranged in parallel to the first fluid pump and includes a second pump chamber having a third volume and a second drive chamber separated therefrom by a second elastic partition and having a fourth volume. The first volume or the third volume has a magnitude within the range from 1 to 25 cm.sup.3.
SUCTION AND IRRIGATION SEALING GRASPER
Aspects of the present disclosure are presented for a single surgical instrument configured for performing sealing procedures on tissues using electrosurgical or ultrasonic energy, irrigating tissue at the sealing site, and evacuating material from the sealing site. An end effector of the surgical instrument may include multiple members arranged in various configurations to collectively perform the aforementioned functions. The evacuation and irrigation elements may comprise one or more fluid paths configured to remove material from or deliver fluid to a surgical field. The instrument may include electrical and mechanical aspects that may be used to control the evacuation and irrigation functions. In this way, a user may use a single surgical instrument to perform these tasks during a tissue sealing procedure.
AUTOMATED ASPIRATION THROTTLING IN VITREORETINAL SURGERY
Ophthalmic surgical devices, systems, and methods for regulating aspiration from a patient's eye are provided. A vacuum pump in fluid communication with an aspiration line provides fluid aspiration from a vitreous chamber of the eye through the aspiration line. A sensor disposed adjacent to or inside the eye determines sensor data relating to an intraocular pressure (IOP). The controller receives the sensor data and regulates the aspiration in response to changes in the TOP, such as by controlling the vacuum pump. The controller may determine whether a fluid infusion to the vitreous chamber through an infusion line is below a maximum infusion level, regulate the infusion in response to the TOP being below a threshold value and the infusion being below the maximum infusion level, and regulate the aspiration in response to the TOP being below the threshold value and the infusion being at or above the maximum infusion level.
