A filter adaptor includes a body that defines an internal passageway disposed between an inlet and an outlet, the passageway configured to permit passage of a fluid in a first direction defined by the inlet and the outlet; and a filter disposed within the passageway and oriented to define a volumetric direction that is different than the first direction. Another filter adaptor includes a body that defines an internal passageway disposed between an inlet and an outlet, and a filter disposed within the passageway, wherein the filter comprises a gelling absorbent material that, when in a dry state, is permeable to gas and that, when contacted by an aqueous fluid, converts to a gel. Such filter adaptors may be used for negative pressure wound therapy, dressing, or as syringe filters.

Vacuum loss detection during laser eye surgery

Apparatus to treat an eye with an ophthalmic laser system comprises a patient interface having an annular retention structure to couple to an anterior surface of the eye. The retention structure is coupled to a suction line to couple the retention structure to the eye with suction. Liquid is added above the eye to act as a transmissive medium. A coupling sensor is coupled to the suction line to determine coupling of the retention structure to the eye. A separate pressure monitoring circuit having a much smaller volume than the suction line is connected to the annular retention structure to measure suction pressure therein. A system processor coupled to the monitoring pressure sensor includes instructions to interrupt firing of a laser when the pressure measured with a monitoring pressure sensor rises above a threshold amount.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR WOUND THERAPY

A wound therapy device is disclosed. The wound therapy device may include a housing for covering at least a portion of a wound and for sealing to a body surface of a patient. The housing may also include a liquid collector for retaining liquid therein and a vacuum connection for coupling to a vacuum source. The vacuum connection may be in gaseous communication with the liquid collector. The vacuum connection may be separated from the liquid collector by a liquid barrier.

Waste Collection System With Controllers For Regulating Levels Of Vacuum Drawn On A Waste Container

A waste collection system for collecting medical waste. A mobile rover includes at least one waste container, and a rover controller. A chassis is removably couplable with the mobile rover and includes a vacuum regulator, and a chassis controller. The chassis controller is configured to control operation of the vacuum regulator based on a pressure signal from a pressure sensor disposed on the mobile rover. The chassis may include a control panel configured to receive an input of and display a vacuum level, and the chassis controller may control operation of the vacuum regulator based on the input. The mobile rover may include plural waste containers, and the chassis may include plural vacuum regulators. The chassis controller may control operation of the vacuum regulators on the chassis to independently regulate the vacuum level supplied to each of the waste containers on the mobile rover.

Device and method for wound therapy

A wound therapy device is disclosed. The wound therapy device may include a housing for covering at least a portion of a wound and for sealing to a body surface of a patient. The housing may also include a liquid collector for retaining liquid therein and a vacuum connection for coupling to a vacuum source. The vacuum connection may be in gaseous communication with the liquid collector. The vacuum connection may be separated from the liquid collector by a liquid barrier.

A housing of a pump unit is fixed to a drape of a wound dressing by a joint portion. A suction chamber that is brought into a negative pressure by driving of a piezoelectric pump directly communicates with a closed space through an opening and an inlet. Hence, a therapy device does not need to include a pipe that allows the closed space and the pump unit to communicate with each other. Therefore, since the therapy device does not need to include the pipe that allows the pump unit to communicate with the closed space, detachment of the pump unit from the wound dressing owing to coming-off of the pipe is avoided. Since the housing is fixed to the drape by the joint portion, the pump unit can be prevented from detaching from the wound dressing.

A wound therapy apparatus is disclosed that includes a wound interface securable to a skin surface around a wound bed to form an enclosed space over the wound bed that is fluid-tight. The wound therapy apparatus may include a dressing engaged with the wound interface to contact the wound bed. A spacer may be disposed within the enclosed space proximal of the dressing to define a plenum between portions of the wound interface and a proximal side of the dressing. Gas within the enclosed space may have an O.sub.2 concentration greater than the O.sub.2 concentration in atmospheric air. The dressing may include a hydrophobic material, a hydrophilic material, or a distal layer comprised of silicone having fenestrations therein, in various aspects. The pressure p.sub.0 within the enclosed space may vary over a pressure range P.sub.min≤P.sub.0≤P.sub.max. Related methods of use are also disclosed.

Fluid ingress protection for NPWT device

A negative pressure wound treatment (NPWT) system including a NWPT therapy unit and a wound dressing configured to overlay a wound bed. The NPWT system includes a first length of tubing comprising a first end and a second end, the first end of the first length of tubing coupled to the NWPT therapy unit and the second end of the first length of tubing having a first coupling half, as well as a second length of tubing having a first end and second end, the first end of the second length of tubing coupled to the wound dressing and the second end of the second length of tubing having a second coupling half. The NPWT system includes an inline filter comprising a sintered polymer and a superabsorbent material, and an inline coupling, wherein the inline coupling is configured to operably couple and de-couple the NPWT therapy unit and wound dressing.

An extraction arm for an extraction device includes a suction pipe and a suction head and defines a suction path that extends from an extraction region in the surroundings of the suction head through the suction pipe to the extraction device. The extraction arm includes an exchangeable filter which is arranged within the suction path. The filter is located in a filter housing which has a main body and a closable cover. The filter is exchangeable, which makes it very easy to prepare the extraction arm for a new application. Since the filter is arranged in front of the suction pipe, the suction pipe remains clean. The filter can easily be changed, whereby disinfection or cleaning of the suction pipe is not necessary.

Collecting unit for medical suctions with a folded bag

A collecting unit, which receives secretion from a patient. The collecting unit comprises a cover (2) and a bag (3), which is mechanically connected to the cover (2). The bag (3) can be converted from a folded state, in which a portion of the bag (3) is folded about a fold axis (FA), into an unfolded state. Two overlapping overlap areas (3.1, 3.2) of the bag (3) that have each a connection area (VB.1, VB.2), are formed in the folded state. These connection areas (VB.1, VB.2) are detachably connected to one another, and preferably in a positively connected. The fold axis (FA) forms a common edge of the two overlap areas (3.1, 3.2).
