Head and neck support

Example implementations relate to providing head and neck support. An example system includes a helmet, a load bearing harness, and a flexible extension coupled between the helmet and the load bearing harness. An activation of a magnetic field proximate the flexible extension causes a ferromagnetic infused medium to transition from a fluid state to a substantially rigid state causing the flexible extension to transition from a flexible state to a rigid state. When the flexible extension is in the rigid state, force applied to the helmet transfers through the flexible extension to the load bearing harness. The system further includes a sensor configured to detect an event. Particularly, the sensor causes the activation of the magnetic field proximate the flexible extension in response to detecting the event.

Head Protection Helmet Assembly

An improved head protection helmet assembly includes a helmet and a torso subassembly that is either a support vest or a shoulder pad subassembly. The helmet and torso subassembly are attached together in a way the helmet cannot move relative to the torso subassembly. A force applied to the helmet is transferred to the torso subassembly. The head of a person using the head protection helmet assembly can be moved inside, and relative to, the helmet. The head protection helmet assembly can also include front and rear body plates attached to the torso subassembly to reduce movement of the torso subassembly and the helmet.

SMART PREDICTION OF NEUROLOGICAL INJURY
20200128899 · 2020-04-30 ·

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are described for predicting a neurological injury to a participant in an activity. The activity can be, for example, an athletic activity that involves repeated, high-impact collisions between participants. Sensor data reflecting interactions between participants in the activity is received from various wearable and non-wearable sensors. The sensor data is evaluated in conjunction with a baseline neurological risk profile of a participant to determine a likelihood that the participant has suffered a potential neurological injury. If this likelihood meets a threshold risk level, an onsite request/response test is initiated to glean more information relating to the participant's condition. Response data associated with the onsite test is cognitively evaluated to determine an updated likelihood of neurological injury to the participant and a follow-up action is determined based on the updated likelihood of neurological injury.

A safety helmet for enhancing visibility to road users. The safety helmet has a plurality of lights which are operatively connected to a power supply; at least one motion sensor which detects a behavioural characteristic of the cyclist and provides input signals to a controller, the controller operates in accordance with an algorithm whereby the signals are processed to determine appropriate timing of activation of the lights, in dependence upon the behavioural characteristic detected; and wherein switching signals from the controller switch on the lights to indicate actual or intended direction of travel.

An aerodynamic control device includes a void opening. The void opening decreases a resistance of a turbulence generated by a component part located behind a center of a longitudinal width of a helmet and is formed so that one end is connected to the helmet and the other end protrudes backward from the helmet.

The present helmet invention combines lightweight, impact absorption materials, force distribution structures, and means for affixing a facemask and straps to the helmet for reducing the risk of head injury. The internal construction of the helmet uses the combination of three or more elliptically shaped rings, each referred to as a halo ring. The halo rings are rigidly affixed to u-shaped torsion bars, and together form a cage. The cage covers areas of the head and skull vulnerable to injury, operating to disperse and thereby dissipate external impacts at any point where forces on the helmet's external surface are transferred to the ovoid-like cage.

An improved safety helmet is a safety helmet for an emergency responder such as a policeman or a fireman that has a plurality of light emitting diodes that are able to flash in various combinations of sequences and in standard emergency light colors to make the emergency responder more visible to others in the vicinity. The safety helmet has a battery power source, a video camera, a transmitter, a receiver, a solar panel for charging the battery, and a thermal imaging scope formed into the safety helmet. There may also be a USB port and cable for recording and downloading.
