Optimizing power transfer to negative pressure sources in negative pressure therapy systems
Embodiments of negative pressure wound therapy systems and methods are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a driving circuit that supplies a driving signal to a negative pressure source to cause the negative pressure source to provide negative pressure via a fluid flow path to a wound dressing. The apparatus furthers include a controller that adjusts a frequency of the driving signal supplied by the driving circuit according to a comparison of a previous magnitude and a subsequent magnitude of the driving signal while the negative pressure source provides negative pressure. The transfer of power to the negative pressure source can thereby be tuned to maximize an amount of power transferred to the negative pressure source.

The device is configured to fit under the chin of a subject at an external location corresponding approximately with the subject's internal soft tissue associated with the neck's anterior triangle. The device includes structural elements designed to optimize comfort, compliance and seal achieved through minimizing the pressure variation along the contact surface of the therapy device.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for dressing a wound. The apparatus comprises a sealing layer comprising at least one orifice, an absorbent layer over the sealing layer, absorbing wound exude and a liquid impermeable, gas permeable filter layer over the absorbent layer.
NEGATIVE PRESSURE DRESSING AND METHOD OF USING SAME
Disclosed herein are apparatuses and methods for treating, a wound by applying reduced or negative pressure to the wound. The apparatus can include a wound cover, a fluid collection container, a vacuum pump, an inflation pump, and one or more conduits. The wound cover can be configured to move between at least a relatively rigid, generally raised position and a relatively flexible, generally collapsed position according to a predetermined program or in response to input from a user or one or more sensors. In some embodiments, the wound cover can be configured to move between at least the relatively rigid, generally raised position and the relatively flexible, generally collapsed position by adjusting the air pressure in one or more channels in the wound cover or by adjusting the length of piezoelectric or other length changing material supported by the wound cover.

A system, method, and apparatus are disclosed for dressing a wound. The apparatus comprises a liquid and gas permeable transmission layer, an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate, the absorbent layer overlying the transmission layer, a gas impermeable cover layer overlying the absorbent layer and comprising a first orifice, wherein the cover layer is moisture vapor permeable.
HEAT-ASSISTED PUMPING SYSTEMS FOR USE IN NEGATIVE PRESSURE WOUND THERAPY
A device and method for treating a wound of a patient with negative pressure is provided. The device comprises a heat-assisted pump system. The pump system can be powered in part by heat derived from the patient. The pump system may be configured to be highly planar, light weight, and portable. The pump system may comprise a Stirling engine or a thermal acoustic engine.

FLUID REMOVAL MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL OF WOUND CLOSURE IN WOUND THERAPY
Embodiments of negative pressure wound therapy systems and methods for operating the systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a negative pressure wound therapy apparatus can include a wound dressing, a negative pressure source, and a controller. The negative pressure source can provide negative pressure via a fluid flow path to the wound dressing. The controller can monitor a rate of fluid removal from the wound, wirelessly communicate the rate of fluid removal to a remote device, and output an indication when the rate of fluid removal meets a threshold.
WOUND THERAPY SYSTEM WITH BLOCKAGE AND LEAK DETECTION
A wound therapy system includes a single conduit fluidly connecting a wound site to a. removed fluid canister. A negative pressure circuit is defined by the wound site, the conduit, the removed fluid canister and tubing extending between the removed fluid canister and a pneumatic pump that applies negative pressure to the negative pressure circuit. A method of operating the wound therapy system includes profiling and benchmarking pressure decay within the negative pressure circuit against previous and/or expected pressure decay to identify any new or sudden anomalies that occur during the operation of the wound therapy system. The wound therapy system may additionally alert a user to such anomalous operation of the wound therapy system and/or identify and alert a user to an underlying cause (e.g, blockage and/or leak, etc.) that is responsible for the anomalous readings.
