Wireline Cable For Use With Downhole Tractor Assemblies
A wireline cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power, an inner armor layer disposed around the cable core, and an outer armor layer disposed around the inner armor layer, wherein a torque on the cable is balanced by providing the outer armor layer with a predetermined amount of coverage less than an entire circumference of the inner armor layer, or by providing the outer armor layer and the inner armor layer with a substantially zero lay angle.
Method of Making Down-Hole Cable
A method for a down-hole cable is provided. The down-hole cable includes an insulated conductor portion. A filler layer abuts and encapsulates the insulated conductor portion, wherein the filler layer is substantially formed with a foamed fluoropolymer. An armor shell is applied to the exterior of the foamed fluoropolymer filler layer.
JACKETED TORQUE BALANCED ELECTROMECHANICAL CABLE
An electromechanical cable that is crush-resistant and torque balanced is provided as well as a method for manufacturing a crush-resistant and torque balance electromechanical cable. The cable can include a core having a conductor surrounded by a first jacket layer, a second jacket layer surrounding the first jacket layer, a first armor layer surrounding second jacket layer, a third jacket layer surrounding the first armor layer, a second armor layer surrounding the third jacket layer, and a fourth jacket layer surrounding the second armor layer. The first armor layer can be constructed as a plurality of wires and compressed partially into the second jacket layer. The second armor layer can be constructed from a plurality of three-wire strands and/or single wires and compressed partially into the third jacket layer. The three-wire strands can be symmetric or asymmetric and can be compacted or non-compacted.
HIGH-POWER LOW-RESISTANCE ELECTROMECHANICAL CABLE
A high-power low-resistance electromechanical cable constructed of a conductor core comprising a plurality of conductors surrounded by an outer insulating jacket. Each conductor has a center conductor element surrounded by a plurality of copper wires, wherein the plurality of copper wires is compacted to have a non-circular cross-section. The center conducting element may be one of a fiber optic strand, a copper wire having an indented outer surface, or a twisted conductor pair. Each conductor also includes a conductor insulating jacket encapsulating the plurality of copper wires and center conducting element. A first armoring layer of a plurality of strength members is wrapped around the outer insulating jacket. A second armoring layer of a plurality of strength members may also be wrapped around the first layer. A polymer jacket layer may encapsulate the first and/or second armoring layers of strength members.
DOWNHOLE CABLE WITH REDUCED DIAMETER
An optical/electrical cable for downhole environments includes a plurality of optical fibers disposed within an interior metal tube. An electrically conducting layer surrounds the interior metal tube, an insulation layer surrounds and contacts the electrically conducting layer, and an exterior metal tube surrounds and contacts the insulation layer.
Downhole Running Cable Having Non-Metallic Conducting and Load Bearing Wire
A cable (100) is used for running a load between surface and downhole in a well. The cable includes one or more wires (110) composed of a non-metallic material. Each of the one or more wires (110) bears the load from the surface and electrically conducts between the surface and downhole. An insulating material (120) is disposed about the one or more wires (110) and insulates the electrical conduction. The non-metallic material includes a carbon nano-tube wire. A jacket (130) can be disposed about the insulating material (120), and the jacket (130) can be composed of a non-metallic material also, such as carbon nano-tube wire.

The three-wire strands can symmetric or asymmetric and can be compacted or non-compacted.
Safety cable for downhole communications
An example system for transmitting signals may include a signal source, a signal target, and a transmission cable coupled to the signal source and the signal target. The transmission cable may include a first conductor and a second conductor surrounding the first conductor. A resistive layer may be between the first conductor and the second conductor and allow current flow between the first conductor and the second conductor.
