SMART CABLE ENCLOSURE INCORPORATING MECHANICAL STRAIN, MEASUREMENT, STORAGE, TRANSMISSION & INTERPRETATION
An electronic cable is provided that is able to measure, store, transmit, and/or interpret mechanical strains that are applied to the electronic cable. The electronic cable includes a centrally located piezoelectric fiber sensor, two or more flex sensors, a battery, a memory, and a microprocessor. The piezoelectric fiber sensor is configured to produce voltage readings that are proportional to tensile loads experienced by the electronic cable in the axial direction over time. The flex sensors are arranged radially external to the piezoelectric fiber sensor, and are configured to output voltage readings that are proportional to lateral loads experienced by the electronic cable in a radial direction over time. The battery is configured to supply a current to the piezoelectric fiber sensor and flex sensors. The microprocessor is configured to store the voltage output readings in the memory.

A cable includes a plurality of covered electric wires and an outer sheath, wherein the plurality of covered electric wires include two first covered electric wires, two second covered electric wires having a larger conductor cross-sectional area than the first covered electric wires, and two third covered electric wires having a smaller conductor cross-sectional area than the second covered electric wires, and wherein the two first covered electric wires are twisted together along a longitudinal direction thereof to form a first twisted wire pair, the two third covered electric wires are twisted together along a longitudinal direction thereof to form a second twisted wire pair, a twist pitch of the second twisted wire pair is longer than a twist pitch of the first twisted wire pair, the first twisted wire pair, the two second covered electric wires, and the second twisted wire pair are twisted together to form a core, in the core, at least a partial contact is provided between the first covered electric wires and the second covered electric wires, between the second covered electric wires and the third covered electric wires, and between the two first covered electric wires, and the outer sheath is arranged to cover the core.
High strength data transmission cable
Disclosed is a non-steel high strength data transmission cable having a strength member (5) and a core (1). The high strength data transmission cable includes a length of a core-cable (10), the length of core-cable (10) includes core (1) plus at least one fiber-optic conductor (2) that is: (i) disposed in a helical shape; and (ii) completely encased in a solid, flexible material. Also disclosed is a process for making a high strength data transmission cable. The high strength data transmission cable is capable of being wound on a winch under tensions and surging shocks experienced by a fishing trawler, and provides high quality data signal transmission and resolution so as to permit use for transmitting data during fish trawl operation from high-resolution sonars used to monitor fish caught.
