Electrical cable

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor and an insulator surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The insulator has an outer surface and extends along a longitudinal axis for a length of the electrical cable. The conductor assembly has a coating layer on the outer surface of the insulator being conductive defining an inner electrical shield of the electrical cable. A cable shield is wrapped around the conductor assembly and has an inner edge and an outer edge. The outer edge is wrapped over the inner edge to form a flap covering the inner edge and extending along the longitudinal axis. The cable shield engages the inner electrical shield and forms an outer electrical shield exterior of the inner electrical shield.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS CABLE WITH TWIN JACKET AND BARRIER

The present disclosure provides a telecommunications cable. The telecommunications cable includes a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors, a separator, a first jacket, one or more barriers and a second jacket. In addition, the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors extends substantially along a longitudinal axis of the telecommunications cable. Further, the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors includes an electrical conductor and an insulation layer. Furthermore, the separator separates each of the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors. Moreover, the first jacket and the second jacket extend substantially along the longitudinal axis of the telecommunications cable. Also, the one or more barriers are positioned between the first jacket and the second jacket.

A method and apparatus for testing shield continuity are provided. In the method and apparatus, a transmitter transmits a first signal in common mode over a plurality of conductors of a cable or cabling installation having a shield. The first signal is transmitted in the common mode at a first end of the plurality of conductors. A receiver receives a plurality of second signals representative of the first signal at a second end of the plurality of conductors, respectively, and outputs data representative of the plurality of second signals. A processor receives the data representative of the plurality of second signals, determines a common mode insertion loss for the cable or cabling installation based on the plurality of second signals, determines, based on the common mode insertion loss, whether the shield is continuous or discontinuous and outputs data representative of whether the shield is continuous or discontinuous.

LOW COST EXTRUDABLE ISOLATOR FROM SLIT-TAPE

A dielectric isolator for a twisted pair cable includes a body formed as an elongate strip with a top surface, bottom surface, a first side edge and a second side edge. A first slot is formed in the first side edge and extends at least half way toward the center of the isolator. A second slot is formed in the second side edge and extends at least half way toward the center of the isolator. During cable manufacturing, first and second wedges open the first and second slots. First and second twisted pairs are inserted into the first and second opened slots, respectively. Third and fourth twisted pairs reside at the top and bottom surface, respectively. The isolator has the cost and reel storage savings of a flat separator tape, while simultaneously providing the internal crosstalk performance of the isolator.
