Nested shielded ribbon cables

The disclosure generally relates to nested shielded ribbon cables that form an electrical cable assembly. The electrical cable assembly includes features that can facilitate bending and movement of the cable.

Electrical characteristics of shielded electrical cables

A shielded electrical cable includes one or more conductor sets extending along a length of the cable and being spaced apart from each other along a width of the cable. Each conductor set has one or more conductors having a size no greater than 24 AWG and each conductor set has an insertion loss of less than about 20 dB/meter over a frequency range of 0 to 20 GHz. First and second shielding films are disposed on opposite sides of the cable, the first and second films including cover portions and pinched portions arranged such that, in transverse cross section, the cover portions of the first and second films in combination substantially surround each conductor set, and the pinched portions of the first and second films in combination form pinched portions of the cable on each side of each conductor.

Shielded electrical cable

A shielded electrical cable includes a conductor set and a shielding film. The conductor set includes one or more substantially parallel longitudinal insulated conductors. The shielding film includes a cover portion partially covering the conductor set, and parallel portions extending from both sides of the conductor set.

A shielded electrical cable includes a conductor set and two generally parallel shielding films disposed around the conductor set. The conductor set includes one or more substantially parallel longitudinal insulated conductors. The shielding films include a parallel portion wherein the shielding films are substantially parallel. The parallel portion is configured to electrically isolate the conductor set.

HIGH DENSITY SHIELDED ELECTRICAL CABLE AND OTHER SHIELDED CABLES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

A shielded electrical ribbon cable includes a plurality of conductor sets. Each conductor set is surrounded by a shield and includes two insulated conductors. First and second non-conductive polymeric layers are disposed on opposite sides of the cable. The polymeric layers include cover portions and pinched portions. The cover portions surround the plurality of conductor sets, and the pinched portions form pinched portions on each side of the cable. The cable includes a transition portion on each side of the cable. At least one of the polymeric layers has a radius of curvature of at least 50 microns across an entire width of the cable. For at least one of the polymeric layers, the ratio of the minimum radius of curvature in the cover portions to the minimum radius of curvature in the transition portions is from 2 to 15.

Electrical characteristics of shielded electrical cables

A shielded electrical cable includes a plurality of conductor sets. Each conductor set includes two insulated conductors. One of the conductor sets also includes a drain wire that generally lies in the plane of the two insulated conductors of the one conductor set. The conductor of each insulated conductor has a size that is not greater than 24 AWG. Each conductor set is substantially surrounded by a shield. The cable also includes first and second non-conductive polymeric layers disposed on opposite sides of the cable. The polymeric layers include cover portions and pinched portions arranged such that, in transverse cross section, the cover portions, in combination, substantially surround the plurality of the conductor sets, and the pinched portions, in combination, form pinched portions of the cable on each side of the plurality of the conductor sets. When the cable is laid flat, the distance between the center of the drain wire of the one conductor set and the center of the nearest insulated conductor of the closest conductor set is 1, the center-to-center spacing of the insulated conductors of the closest conductor set is 2, and 1/2 is greater than 0.7.

Shielded electrical cable

A cable includes one or more conductor sets. Each conductor set includes one or more central conductors surrounded by a dielectric material. Shielding films are disposed on opposite sides of the conductor sets. In cross-section, cover portions of the shielding films in combination substantially surround each conductor set, and pinched portions of the shielding films in combination form pinched portions of the cable on each side of each conductor set. For at least one shielding film in a pinched portion, the conductive layer, but not the non-conductive layer, includes a break.

Cable for medical instruments

The invention relates to an electrical cable (100) for exchanging communication signals between two devices, particularly a cable (100) that can be integrated into a catheter or a guidewire (5). The cable (100) comprises at least one pair (120, 130) of differential wires (D1+, D1, D2+, D2) that are, during operation, supplied with opposite voltages, thus defining a voltage-neutral plane (VNP) between them. Moreover, the cable (100) comprises at least one set (140) of single-ended wires (S11, S12; S21, S22; S31, S32) that is arranged symmetrically with respect to said voltage-neutral plane (VNP). Optionally a core wire (110) may be used for providing mechanical stability and additional electrical functionality. Electromagnetic disturbances from the differential wires to the single-ended wires (and vice versa) are minimized due to the particular arrangement of wires.
