Patch-sized fluid delivery systems and methods
A patch-sized fluid delivery device may include a reusable portion and a disposable portion. The disposable portion may include components that come into contact with the fluid, while the reusable portion may include only components that do not come into contact with the fluid. Redundant systems, such as redundant controllers, power sources, motor actuators, and alarms, may be provided. Alternatively or additionally, certain components can be multi-functional, such a microphones and loudspeakers that may be used for both acoustic volume sensing and for other functions and a coil that may be used as both an inductive coupler for a battery recharger and an antenna for a wireless transceiver. Various types of network interfaces may be provided in order to allow for remote control and monitoring of the device.
Closed system elastomeric pumping mechanism
A medicinal infusion system includes a safety valve for isolating residual medication by providing a single point of fluidic disconnect to encapsulate a residual fluid volume prone to spillage. The safety valve couples a medicinal repository such as an infusion pump to a medicinal supply, typically from a syringe or tubing. The safety valve includes a resilient, deformable, or hinged surface for isolating and sealing the medicinal flow to eliminate and/or isolate any residual volume in tubing and connectors. The isolating surface accommodates an inserted fitting or coupling for allowing the medicinal flow to fill the infusion pump. Upon disconnection, fluids on either side of the safety valve are therefore isolated on the respective fill or source sides, and residual volume prone to spillage is eliminated.
Devices and methods for controlling electromechanical actuators
Electromechanical actuation systems and related operating methods are provided. A method of controlling an electromechanical actuator in response to an input command signal at an input terminal involves determining a commanded actuation state value based on a characteristic of the input command signal, generating driver command signals based on the commanded actuation state value and an actuator type associated with the electromechanical actuator, and operating driver circuitry in accordance with the driver command signals to provide output signals at output terminals coupled to the electromechanical actuator.
PIEZOELECTRIC MEMBRANE PUMP FOR THE INFUSION OF LIQUIDS
An infusion pump (10) includes a fluid chamber (28) having an outlet valve (34) and a piezo-stack actuator (36) comprising a stack of piezo-electric layers (38). An electronic processor (18) is programmed to operate the outlet valve and the piezo-stack actuator to pump fluid through the fluid chamber at a programmed flow rate.
Catheter system clamp, systems, and methods
A method to manage flushing of a catheter assembly may include providing a clamp for a fluid tube configured to be coupled to the catheter assembly. The clamp may include a sensor configured to detect the clamp is closed. The method may include starting a timer in response to the sensor detecting the clamp is closed. The method may include providing an alert in response to the timer reaching a predetermined duration of time. The alert may indicate to a clinician that the catheter assembly should be opened and flushed, which may prevent occlusion of the catheter assembly.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING PULSE MODE PUMPING IN INFUSION SYSTEMS
The present disclosure provides a new and innovative method and system for flow rate compensation in devices, such as medical devices and other electronic devices. In various embodiments, a computer-implemented method includes dispensing, by a pump controlled by a controller, a fluid from a fluid supply in a pulse mode over a period by determining a pulse volume for a pulse, determining a pulse cycle time, and for the period: controlling the position of the pump to perform a delay and perform a pulse to dispense an amount of the fluid, the pulse performed for the pulse cycle time, calculating an overshoot or undershoot of the amount of the fluid dispensed relative to the pulse volume, adjusting the pulse cycle time based on the calculated overshoot or undershoot, and repeating the dispensing until the period has elapsed.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DETECTING INFUSION PUMP CONDITIONS
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for monitoring performance of an ambulatory infusion pump. An ambulatory infusion pump can include a reservoir configured to contain a medicament including a plunger at a proximal end of the reservoir and an outlet port at a distal end of the reservoir. A motor can be configured to cause linear motion of a pushrod to contact and move the plunger to cause medicament to flow from the reservoir out of the outlet port to a patient. An optical encoder can be employed to monitor a linear position of the pushrod. In addition, the optical encoder can be employed to monitor additional system conditions and/or a secondary encoder can be employed to monitor the performance of the optical encoder.
