The control unit is configured to identify the presence of at least one safety-relevant event and, in the case of the safety-relevant event, to transmit at least one control signal to the power section. The power section is configured to initiate or carry out at least one safety measure depending on the control signal.

A method carries out a switchover of an on-load tap-changer using a drive system. The drive system includes at least one motor which acts on a drive shaft, a control device and an encoder system which is directly or indirectly coupled to the drive shaft. The method includes receiving a signal for switching the on-load tap-changer from the control device; determining by the control device whether switching to a current tap was performed from an upward or downward direction, and whether switching will be performed to a next tap in the upward or downward direction; selecting, on the basis of the determination, one of a plurality of travel profiles for the drive system of the on-load tap-changer, on the basis of which the switchover is carried out; and carrying out and monitoring the switchover by the drive system according to the selected travel profile.

A switch assembly including a switch and a drive system for the switch. The drive system includes a motor for driving the switch, a control device with a power section for supplying power to the motor, a controller for initiating a switching operation of the switch by control of the power section, and a protection circuit. The protection circuit is configured to detect a first error signal via a state contact of the controller in the event of a malfunction of the controller, detect a second error signal via a state contact of the power section in the event of a malfunction of the power section, and initiate a safety measure depending on the first and the second error signal. The control device is configured to activate the protection circuit prior to the switching operation being initiated and to deactivate it following successful execution of the switching operation.

An on-load tap changer has a contact system. The contact system includes: a fixed contact; a movable contact; and an auxiliary contact. The moveable contact is configured to directly contact, in a stationary state, the fixed contact. The auxiliary contact is configured to electrically connect, in addition to the direct contact, the movable contact with the fixed contact in the stationary state. The auxiliary contact is constructed and arranged to conduct a current between the fixed contact and the movable contact in the event of interruption of the direct contacting.

A switch includes a diverter contact; a primary fixed contact; and a secondary fixed contact. The switch additionally includes a primary movable contact configured to be pivoted, relative to the diverter contact and the primary fixed contact, about a pivot axis between a first end position and a second end position. In the first end position, the primary movable contact bears by a first contact point against the diverter contact and by a second contact point against the primary fixed contact. The switch further includes a secondary movable contact configured to be pivoted, relative to the diverter contact and the secondary fixed contact, about the pivot axis between a first end position and a second end position. In the first end position the secondary movable contact bears by a third contact point against the diverter contact and by a fourth contact point against the secondary fixed contact.

The switching element also has an actuator configured to actuate the plunger and thereby actuate the movable contact; and a guide. The guide is arranged outside of the housing and is attached to the actuator such that, when actuation of the movable contact takes place, the guide is configured to move therewith. The guide surrounds the housing at least in part, and at least a sub-region of the guide bears against the housing such that, when the movable contact is actuated, the sub-region is moved along the housing.

A switching system for an on-load tap changer includes a rotatable ring stack, wherein the rotatable ring stack is part of an internal Geneva mechanism and a drive system. The ring stack includes a first current carrier ring and a second current carrier ring each of which is selectively electrically coupleable to one of a plurality of contact elements of the tap changer, and a Geneva ring. The drive system includes a driving wheel, wherein the Geneva ring is mechanically coupleable with the driving wheel, such that the Geneva ring is rotatable by the driving wheel, and the first and the second current carrier rings each are coupled with the Geneva ring such that a rotation of Geneva ring causes a joint rotation of the first and the second current carrier ring.
