A contact mechanism includes an opening/closing fixed contact, an opening/closing movable contact opposed to the opening/closing fixed contact, and a permanent magnet configured to extend an arc that occurs between the opening/closing fixed contact and the opening/closing movable contact in a predetermined direction. In particular, an arc that occurs from contact surface regions where the opening/closing fixed contact and the opening/closing movable contact make contact with each other is extended by a magnetic force of the permanent magnet and moved to non-contact surface regions where the opening/closing fixed contact and the opening/closing movable contact make no contact with each other.

Circuit interrupter

A circuit interrupter includes a fixed terminal, a movable contactor, a moving mechanism, a squib, and accommodation. The fixed terminal includes a fixed contact. The movable contactor includes a movable contact connected to the fixed contact. The moving mechanism is configured to move the movable contactor from a closed position where the movable contact is connected to the fixed contact to an open position where the movable contact is separated from the fixed contact. The squib is configured to generate gas by combustion. The accommodation is for accommodating the fixed contact and the movable contactor. In the circuit interrupter, the gas is introduced into the accommodation.

In accordance with the invention, at least one of the two contacts is provided with a non-conductive cover on a non-contact-facing side which faces away from the other contact, which cover prevents a base point of the arc from crossing the non-contact-facing side.

An electromagnetic relay includes a case, a first fixed terminal including a first fixed contact, a second fixed terminal including a second fixed contact, a movable contact piece including first and second movable contacts, a first magnet, a gas flow path, and a partition member. The case includes an accommodation space and a side wall covering the accommodation space in a first direction. The accommodation space includes a first space where the first fixed contact is disposed and a second space where the second fixed contact is disposed. The first magnet configured to extend a first arc generated between the first fixed contact and the first movable contact in the first direction. The gas flow path is disposed between the side wall and the movable contact piece. The gas flow path includes an inlet communicating with the first space and an outlet communicating with the second space.
