Transparent keycaps

Keycaps for keyboards that have transparent top portions have a set of layered components to define a top surface that provides key definition by curvature, texture, ridges, or other external structural features. Other portions of the keycaps define a glyph or support structure for the top layer. Features such as angle filters and partially reflective materials are implemented to improve the visibility, contrast, and reflectivity of the keycaps. Multiple methods are used to bend or otherwise modify rigid transparent materials such as glass in order to add surface features and to improve aesthetics of the keycaps of a keyboard.

Keyboard device and key structure thereof
11204651 · 2021-12-21 · ·

A keyboard device includes a membrane circuit board and a key structure over the membrane circuit board. The key structure includes a keycap, a plunger structure, a key pedestal and an elastic element. The plunger structure is arranged between the keycap and the elastic element. At least a portion of the keycap is disposed within a pedestal dust-storage chamber of the key pedestal. At least a portion of the plunger structure is disposed within a guiding chamber of the key pedestal. Due to the relative location between the keycap, the plunger structure and the key pedestal, the path of the dust to enter the guiding chamber is extended or blocked. Consequently, the dust-proof efficacy is enhanced.

Keyboard and keyswitch

A keyswitch includes a base, a keycap, a lift mechanism, a touch circuitry portion, and an outer covering layer. The keycap is connected to the base through the lift mechanism so as to move up and down relative to the base. The touch circuitry portion is disposed on the top surface of the keycap. A connection circuitry portion extends from the touch circuitry portion. The outer covering layer covers the touch circuitry portion and at least a portion of the connection circuitry portion. Thereby, the keyswitch can provide touch function without excessively increasing the whole thickness of the keyswitch. A keyboard includes a plurality of the keyswitches and therefore can provide touch function without excessively increasing the whole thickness of the keyboard.

This disclosure relates to a key module including a base, a first pivotable frame, a second pivotable frame and a keycap. The base includes two assembly frames. Each of the assembly frames includes an engagement portion and two guide portions. The engagement portion is connected to and located between the guide portions. The first pivotable frame is engaged with the engagement portion by being guided by the guide portions of the assembly frames. The second pivotable frame is engaged with the engagement portion by being guided by the guide portions of the assembly frames. The keycap includes a press part, a first engagement part and a second engagement part. The first engagement part and the second engagement part are connected to the press part. The first pivotable frame is engaged with the first engagement part, and the second pivotable frame is engaged with the second engagement part.

Keyboard device

A keyboard device includes a base plate, a plurality of key structures, a floating frame and a cover layer. The key structures are disposed over the base plate, and each of the key structures has a keycap. The floating frame is disposed over and separated from the base plate. The floating frame has a plurality of openings, and the key structures are disposed in the openings, respectively. The cover layer covers the keycaps of the key structures and the floating frame and is in direct or indirect contact with an upper surface of the keycap of each of the key structures and an upper surface of the floating frame. When the keycap of one of the key structures and the cover layer thereover are pressed to bottom, the floating frame surrounding the one of the key structures is pulled by the cover layer and shifted.

A system may comprise a printed circuit board (PCB) including a top surface, and a bracket including a top surface configured to receive and couple to a key switch and a bottom surface including at least two protrusions that extend normal to the bottom surface of the bracket. The bracket can be configured to mount to the PCB such that the bottom surface of the bracket is coupled to the top surface of the PCB, and the at least two protrusions may each include conductive leads that couple to the top surface of the PCB. The bracket is configured to only cover a portion of a bottom surface of the key switch when coupled to the key switch. An LED can be mounted to the top surface of the PCB, laterally adjacent to the bracket, and under the key switch at a location not covered by the bracket.
