Cartridge safety injection system and methods

A system for injecting includes a cartridge body defining a proximal opening and a distal needle interface. The system also includes a plunger member defining a plunger interior and configured to be manually manipulated to insert a stopper member relative to the cartridge body. The plunger member includes a needle retention feature disposed in the plunger interior, an energy-storage member disposed in the plunger interior, and an energy-storage member latching member disposed in the plunger interior. The system further includes a needle hub assembly coupled to the distal needle interface of the cartridge body. The needle assembly includes a needle having a needle proximal end feature, a hub, and a needle latching member configured to couple the needle to the hub. The needle is retractable into plunger interior upon manipulation of the plunger member to actuate the energy-storage member latching member.

A device for administering a fluid is provided, with a cylinder (16, 116) which has an open dispensing end (17), a piston (36) which is displaceable between a front and rear end position in the cylinder (16, 116) and is connected to a piston rod (35) that protrudes along a first direction beyond a rear end of the cylinder (16, 116) opposite the open dispensing end (17) and is guided in a receiving block (10), a nonreturn valve (18) closing the open dispensing end (17), and a tensioning device (S) which is connected to the piston rod (35, 135) and is arranged in the receiving block (10).

The tensioning device (S) has a ramp (52) which is rotatable by means of a motor (12) and has a ramp track (53) extending along a helical line, wherein the ramp track (53) ascends from a first plateau along a region of inclination (S1, S2) to a second plateau and descends from the second plateau to the first plateau via a transition flank (46).

The tensioning device (S) furthermore has a roller (51) which is in contact with the ramp track (53) and is mounted rotatably in a driver (50), which is connected to that end of the piston rod (35, 135) which protrudes out of the cylinder (16, 116), and therefore, upon rotation of the ramp (52), the ramp track (53) runs below the roller (51), which thereby rotates, wherein the roller (51) has a support region (55) which rests on the region of inclination (51, S2) of the ramp track (53), and at least one laterally adjoining side region (56, 57) which has a smaller outside diameter than the support region (55) and which does not rest on the region of inclination (S1, S2) of the ramp track (53), wherein, during rotation of the ramp, both the support region (55) and the side region (56, 57) come into contact with an edge (54) of the ramp track (53), said edge connecting the second plateau to the transition flank (46).

A syringe assembly includes (i) a syringe with a cylindrical body, luer tip at a first end, finger grip at a second end and a cannula extending from the luer tip into the cylindrical body, and (ii) a plunger unit having an adapter portion, receiving cavity, finger grip and piston. A channel extends the length of the adapter portion to receive the cannula in one end and a variety of connectors, valves and/or syringes in a second end. The end of the channel accessible in the receiving cavity mates with or engages any number of commercially available valves, connectors and/or syringes while the luer tip similarly connects to any number of valves, catheters, connectors, etc., depending on the task being undertaken with the syringe assembly.

ADAPTER FOR SINGLE-HANDED OPERATION OF SYRINGE DURING ASPIRATION OPERATION

An adapter for single-handed operation of a syringe includes a clip having a pair of arcuate legs that straddle at least half of an outer diameter of a barrel of a syringe, the clip having an upper opening. The adapter also includes an integrated structure including an extension spine that extends in an axial direction and outside of the barrel of the syringe, a forward flange disposed at a first end of the extension spine and having arcuate legs that straddle at least half of the outer diameter of the barrel of the syringe, and a support that that is disposed on an opposite end of the extension spine and is positioned adjacent to a thumb press of a plunger rod of the syringe.

A plunging unit for a syringe is provided comprising (i) a plunger comprising a plunger head connected to a thumb rest by a shaft; and (ii) a pusher housing comprising a finger rest and an internal channel connecting a plunger-receiving end of the housing to a barrel-receiving end of the housing, wherein the plunger-receiving end is adapted to receive the plunger head into the channel and the barrel-receiving end is adapted to engage a barrel of a carpule housing unit. The plunging unit includes an aspirator comprising an actuator connected to a spring-loaded piston that is situated within the pusher housing, wherein the actuator is adjacent to the plunger-receiving end of the pusher housing such that the shaft of the plunger is moveable through the actuator and the spring-loaded piston, the actuator being moveable between a resting position and an activated position in which the actuator is pushed downwardly against the bias of the spring-loaded piston to engage with and push a carpule forward within the carpule housing unit.

A device includes a syringe, which has a tip, plunger, and barrel containing a fluid. The device also includes a needle electrode coupled to the tip of the syringe, a release component, and a control component configured to receive electrical measurements made by the needle electrode, determine impedance values from the electrical measurements, and identify a target tissue based on the impedance values. In response to the identification, the control component generates instructions to reposition a release component. A method includes receiving electrical measurements from a needle electrode, determining impedance values based on the electrical measurements. A target tissue is identified based on the impedance values, and a release component is repositioned in response. An article of manufacture includes a needle electrode and a microprocessor configured to receive electrical measurements, determine impedance values, identify a target tissue based on the impedance values, and generate instructions to reposition a release component.

The needle shield is retracted in a direction toward the body to apply a force in the direction to cause the needle to emerge out of the needle shield to prepare the needle-based device for a second state of use thereof. The needle-based device also includes a lock button including a hook at an end thereof. The needle shield is locked using the lock button in the first state of disuse in accordance with the hook passing through a groove formed on the needle shield and locking directly on to a top of the body from which the needle protrudes.
