A system and method for generating X-ray radiation. The system includes an electron source operable to generate an electron beam and an X-ray target for generating X-ray radiation upon interaction with the electron beam. The method includes moving the electron beam over an edge separating a first region and a second region of the X-ray target, wherein the first region and the second region have different capability to generate X-ray radiation upon interaction with the electron beam. The system allows for a lateral extension of the electron beam to be determined based on a change in a quantity indicative of the interaction between the electron beam and the first region and between the electron beam and the second region, and the movement of the electron beam.

Systems and methods for reducing radiation dose in CT

A low-dose CT imaging system and method that operates according to a pulsed X-ray emission scheme according to a predefined sequence of rotation angles of the X-ray source, along with image reconstruction algorithms to achieve high spatial and temporal resolution for CT scans. The systems and methods involve high speed switching (on the order of milliseconds) to generate pulsed exposure of X-ray radiation to the patient, reducing radiation dose by 4-8 fold, or more.

Systems and methods for X-ray imaging

A system and method for generating X-rays are disclosed. The method may include emitting an electron beam from a cathode to a focal track of a rotating target. The method may further include deflecting the electron beam onto a first region of the focal track at a first time, and deflecting the electron beam onto a second region of the focal track at a second time. The first region of the focal track may be separated from the second region of the focal track. The method may further include generating X-rays in response to the electron beam deflected onto the first region of the focal track or onto the second region of the focal track.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL BEAM FORMING X-RAY SOURCE

X-ray target element is comprised of a planar wafer. The planar wafer element includes a target layer and a substrate layer. The target layer is comprised of an element having a relatively high atomic number and the substrate layer is comprised of diamond. The substrate layer is configured to support the target layer and facilitate transfer of thermal energy away from the target layer.
