Shaft members which respectively protrude toward at least one beam member and the other beam member in a z-axis direction are formed in a mesh support member. A through hole for penetrating a space between a shaft end surface and an opening portion in the z-axis direction and introducing a focused ion beam toward a fine sample piece is formed in at least one shaft member.
Stepped indirectly heated cathode with improved shielding
An ion source for forming a plasma has a cathode with a cavity and a cathode surface defining a cathode step. A filament is disposed within the cavity, and a cathode shield has a cathode shield surface at least partially encircling the cathode surface. A cathode gap is defined between the cathode surface and the cathode shield surface, where the cathode gap defines a tortured path for limiting travel of the plasma through the gap. The cathode surface can have a stepped cylindrical surface defined by a first cathode diameter and a second cathode diameter, where the first cathode diameter and second cathode diameter differ from one another to define the cathode step. The stepped cylindrical surface can be an exterior surface or an interior surface. The first and second cathode diameters can be concentric or axially offset.
ION MILLING DEVICE AND ION MILLING METHOD
To provide an ion gun of a penning discharge type capable of narrowing a beam with a low ion beam current at a low acceleration voltage, an ion milling device including the same, and an ion milling method.
An ion milling device that controls half width of a beam profile of an ion beam with which a sample is irradiated from an ion gun to be in a range of 200 μm to 350 μm. The device includes: the ion gun that ionizes a gas supplied from the outside, and emits an ion beam; a gas-flow-rate varying unit that varies a flow rate of the gas supplied to the ion gun; and a current measurement unit that measures a current value of the ion beam emitted from the ion gun. The gas-flow-rate varying unit sets a gas flow rate to be higher than a gas flow rate at which the ion beam current has a maximum value based on the current value measured by the current measurement unit and the flow rate of the gas determined by the gas-flow-rate varying unit.
ETCHING ALUMINUM NITRIDE OR ALUMINUM OXIDE TO GENERATE AN ALUMINUM ION BEAM
An ion implantation system, ion source, and method are provided, where an ion source is configured to ionize an aluminum-based ion source material and to form an ion beam and a by-product including a non-conducting material. An etchant gas mixture has a predetermined concentration of fluorine and a noble gas that is in fluid communication with the ion source. The predetermined concentration of fluorine is associated with a predetermined health safety level, such as approximately a 20% maximum concentration of fluorine. The etchant gas mixture can have a co-gas with a concentration less than approximately 5% of argon. The aluminum-based ion source material can be a ceramic member, such as a repeller shaft, a shield, or other member within the ion source.
System, apparatus and method for variable length electrode in linear accelerator
An apparatus may include an RF power assembly, arranged to output an RF signal, and a drift tube assembly, arranged to transmit an ion beam, and coupled to the RF power assembly. The drift tube assembly may include a first ground electrode; an AC drift tube assembly, disposed downstream of the first ground electrode; and a second ground electrode, disposed downstream of the AC drift tube assembly, where the AC drift tube assembly comprises at least one variable length AC drift tube.
Scanning ion beam etch
The present disclosure provides a method to adjust asymmetric velocity of a scan in a scanning ion beam etch process to correct asymmetry of etching between the inboard side and the outboard side of device structures on a wafer, while maintaining the overall uniformity of etch across the full wafer.
METHOD FOR STRUCTURING A DECORATIVE OF TECHNICAL PATTERN IN AN OBJECT MADE OF AN AT LEAST PARTIALLY TRANSPARENT AMORPHOUS, SEMI-CRYSTALLINE OR CRYSTALLINE MATERIAL
A method for structuring a decorative or technical pattern in the thickness of an object made of an at least partially transparent amorphous, semi-crystalline or crystalline material, wherein the object is made of an at least partially transparent material including a top surface and a bottom surface which extends away from the top surface. The top or bottom surfaces is provided with a mask defining an opening whose outline corresponds to the profile of the pattern to be structured, the mask covering the top or bottom surface at the positions which are not to be structured. The pattern is structured with a mono- or multicharged ion beam through the opening of the mask, wherein the mechanical properties of the mask are sufficient to prevent the ions of the ion beam from etching the top or bottom surface at the positions where this top or bottom surface is covered by the mask.
Liquid metal ion source
An ion source is configured to form an ion beam and has an arc chamber enclosing an arc chamber environment. A reservoir apparatus can be configured as a repeller and provides a liquid metal to the arc chamber environment. A biasing power supply electrically biases the reservoir apparatus with respect to the arc chamber to vaporize the liquid metal to form a plasma in the arc chamber environment. The reservoir apparatus has a cup and cap defining a reservoir environment for the liquid metal that is fluidly coupled to the arc chamber environment by holes in the cap. Features extend from the cup into the reservoir and contact the liquid metal to feed the liquid metal toward the arc chamber environment by capillary action. A structure, surface area, roughness, and material modifies the capillary action. The feature can be an annular ring, rod, or tube extending into the liquid metal.
HYBRID ION SOURCE FOR ALUMINUM ION GENERATION USING A TARGET HOLDER AND A SOLID TARGET
An ion source that is capable of different modes of operation is disclosed. The ion source includes an insertable target holder includes a hollow interior into which the solid dopant material is disposed. The target holder may a porous surface at a first end, through which vapors from the solid dopant material may enter the arc chamber. The porous surface inhibits the passage of liquid or molten dopant material into the arc chamber. The target holder is also constructed such that it may be refilled with dopant material when the dopant material within the hollow interior has been consumed. A solid target is also disposed in the arc chamber. When the insertable target holder is used, multicharged ions are created. When the insertable target holder is retracted, single charged ions are created by only etching the solid dopant-containing compound.
