WEEPING BALLOON DEVICES
Catheters with weeping balloons can be used for various medical purposes. For example, in some embodiments provided herein weeping balloons are used for catheter visualization devices. In some embodiments, weeping balloons are used to deliver therapeutic agents. Weeping balloons can include openings of a selected size and shape through which a fluid gradually flows or “weeps.” The design of the openings can affect performance characteristics such as, but not limited to, fluid flow rate, tear resistance, and mitigation of counter-flow.
Multilayer balloon for a catheter
Balloon catheter comprises an elongate catheter shaft having a proximal section, a distal section, and an inflation lumen defined therein and a multilayer balloon on the distal section of the shaft comprising a first layer made of a first polymer material having a first Shore durometer hardness, a second layer made of a second polymer material having a second Shore durometer hardness greater than the first Shore durometer hardness, wherein the second layer is an inner layer relative to the first layer, and a third layer made of a third polymer material having a third Shore durometer hardness less the first Shore durometer hardness, wherein the third layer is an inner layer relative to the second layer. Method of making a balloon catheter is also provided.
MEDICAL DEVICE IMAGABLE BY ULTRASOUND
A medical device includes a structural element comprising an outer surface and a material on the outer surface of the structural element. The material defines void spaces containing a gas entrained within the void spaces. The material, upon contact with physiological fluid, is configured to release the gas in an amount sufficient for the gas to be imaged by ultrasound.
MEDICAL BALLOON
Medical devices and methods for making and using medical devices are disclosed. An example medical device may include a catheter. The catheter may include a catheter shaft and a balloon. The balloon may comprise a cone portion, a waist portion, and a body portion. A fiber braid may be disposed along the balloon. An inner surface of the waist portion may be thermally bonded to an outer surface of the catheter shaft and an inner surface of the fiber braid may be adhesively bonded to an outer surface of the waist portion.
DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR ACTIVE AGENT COATED BALLOON
Embodiments herein include delivery systems for active agent coated balloons and related methods. In an embodiment, a delivery system can include a tunneling sheath and a balloon catheter. The tunneling sheath can include a tubular shaft having an outer diameter and defining a lumen. The tunneling sheath can include a proximal collar defining a lumen. The balloon catheter can include a balloon catheter shaft disposed within the tubular shaft. The balloon catheter shaft can include a lumen for the passage of a fluid therein. The balloon catheter can include an expandable balloon disposed on the balloon catheter shaft. The balloon catheter shaft can include an active agent layer disposed on the expandable balloon. The position of the expandable balloon can be configured to be stationary relative to the tubular shaft as the delivery system is passed through a blood vessel of a patient. Other embodiments are also included herein.
BALLOON CATHETER AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF, AND TREATMENT METHOD
A balloon catheter that includes an elongated main body, a balloon connected to the elongated main body, and a base layer on the outer surface of the balloon. The base layer includes a water-soluble low-molecular weight compound. The balloon catheter also includes a plurality of elongate bodies extending radially away from the outer surface of the balloon. The elongate bodies are crystals of a water-insoluble drug. The elongate bodies each possesses an independent longitudinal axis. At least part of at least some of the elongate bodies are located in the interior of the base layer on the outer surface of the balloon.
Drug releasing coatings for medical devices
Medical device are provided for delivering a therapeutic agent to a tissue. The medical device has a layer overlying the exterior surface of the medical device. The layer contains a therapeutic agent and an additive. In certain embodiments, the additive has a hydrophilic part and a drug affinity part, wherein the drug affinity part is at least one of a hydrophobic part, a part that has an affinity to the therapeutic agent by hydrogen bonding, and a part that has an affinity to the therapeutic agent by van der Waals interactions. In embodiments, the additive is water-soluble. In further embodiments, the additive is at least one of a surfactant and a chemical compound, and the chemical compound has a molecular weight of from 80 to 750 or has more than four hydroxyl groups.
FUNCTIONALIZED BALLOON SURFACE
A method for producing a balloon for a balloon catheter includes providing the balloon that has an outer surface. A solution including a solvent and a polymer is used to deposit the polymer onto the surface and form a surface coating of the polymer.
Internal balloon sheath
Devices and methods for providing an internal balloon sheath are disclosed. One device includes a sheath for insertion through an arteriotomy of a patient. The sheath comprises a tubular sheath body having a longitudinal axis, an open proximal end, an open distal end, an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface defining a lumen between the proximal and distal ends for passage of a catheter device. The sheath also comprises an inflatable balloon disposed within the lumen. The inflatable balloon is configured to occupy a longitudinal space in the lumen between the inner surface of the sheath body and the catheter device when the catheter device is disposed within the sheath and the balloon is inflated, and fluidically seal the lumen.
CONTROLLABLE INFLATION PROFILE BALLOON COVER METHODS
A method of inflating a catheter balloon may include providing a balloon assembly operable to provide a balloon diameter vs. balloon pressure profile generally depicting a balloon inflation sequence providing at least one intermediate inflated diameter and a final inflated diameter of a balloon such that the balloon attains the at least one intermediate diameter at a predetermined pressure, and attains the final diameter at a final predetermined pressure that is lower than a predetermined pressure of a last intermediate pressure.
