Method and apparatus for protecting electrical components from a transient electromagnetic disturbance
The present disclosure provides a method of protecting a component using a deliberately created impedance mismatch between conductive impedance transition elements and an electric power line. The method comprises coupling a plurality of conductive impedance transition elements having a greater diameter than the power line at a position between an extended length of the power line and the component. The difference between the diameters of the conductive transition elements and the power line causes an intentional impedance mismatch between the two or more impedance transition elements with adjacent portions of the power line, and the mismatch causes high-frequency components of the transient electromagnetic signals induced on the power line by the transient electrical disturbance to be reflected by at least one of two or more impedance transition elements away from the protected component.
Tunable frequency selective limiter
A tunable frequency selective limiter is disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the tunable frequency selective limiter includes a first electrically conductive path. The tunable frequency selective limiter also includes a ferrimagnetic layer disposed adjacent to the first electrically conductive path. The tunable frequency selective limiter further includes a second electrically conductive path coiled around the first electrically conductive path and the ferrimagnetic layer. An electromagnetic current transmitting through the second electrically conductive path produces a magnetic field coupled to the ferrimagnetic layer. The tunable frequency selective limiter further includes a dielectric layer, wherein the ferrimagnetic layer is disposed on the dielectric layer. The portions of the second electrically conductive path that are at the interface of the dielectric layer and the ferrimagnetic layer may be embedded into the dielectric layer or may be disposed on the surface of the dielectric layer.
NOISE FILTER AND ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
A noise filter includes a magnetic core including a magnetic material; and a distance adjusting member that accepts adjustment of a distance between a loop portion and the magnetic core, the loop portion being a portion of one or more conductor wiring lines wired in loop shape out of a first conductor wiring line and a second conductor wiring line.
Biplanar tapered line frequency selective limiter
A frequency selective limiter (FSL) is provided having a transmission line structure with a tapered width. The FSL includes a magnetic material having first and second opposing surfaces. A first conductor is disposed on the first surface of the magnetic material, where a width of the first conductor decreases from a first end of the FSL to a second end of the FSL along a length of the FSL. Two second conductors are disposed on the second surface of the magnetic material, where a width of a gap between the two second conductors decreases from the first end of the FSL to the second end of the FSL along a length of the FSL. The first conductor and two second conductors form a biplanar waveguide transmission line.

Vertically meandered frequency selective limiter
A frequency selective limiter (FSL) having an input port and an output port can comprise a plurality of vertically stacked transmission line structures. Each of the transmission line structures can be electrically coupled to a transmission line structure disposed directly above it and with a first one of the plurality of vertically stacked transmission line structures having one end corresponding to the FSL input port and a second one of the plurality of vertically stacked transmission line structures having one end corresponding to the FSL output port. Each of the plurality of vertically stacked transmission line structures can comprise a magnetic material having first and second opposing surfaces and one or more conductors disposed on at least one of the surfaces of the magnetic material.
