Method and apparatus for transmitting electromagnetic waves

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, an apparatus including a waveguide, an antenna, and a transmitter. The transmitter can facilitate transmission of first electromagnetic waves via the antenna, the first electromagnetic waves having a fundamental mode. The waveguide can facilitate propagation of the first electromagnetic waves at least in part on a surface of the waveguide. The waveguide can be positioned at a location that enables the first electromagnetic waves to induce second electromagnetic waves having fundamental and non-fundamental modes that propagate on a surface of a transmission medium. Other embodiments are disclosed.

MAGNETIC COUPLING DEVICE AND METHODS FOR USE THEREWITH

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a coupling device including a receiving portion that receives a radio frequency signal conveying data from a transmitting device. A magnetic coupler magnetically couples the radio frequency signal to a transmission medium as a guided electromagnetic wave that is bound by an outer surface of the transmission medium. A mobile communication base station antenna includes: a reflecting plate; a first patch-type radiating element installed on the reflecting plate; a second dipole-type radiating element installed and stacked on the first radiating element; and a circuit board for feeding power installed on the same surface as a surface of the reflecting plate on which the first radiating element and the second radiating element are installed and having a conductive pattern formed thereon to provide a feeding signal to the first radiating element.

A closed loop antenna has at least one coil and a pair of feed lines, wherein the feed lines extend from the first end (41) to the second end (43), and the at least one coil is located within the first end (41). The connection head of the supply cable provides protection for an antenna and enables the antenna to be mounted outside the housing.

Additionally, the diameter of the radiating body is 2.0˜3.0 times the length, in the horizontal-direction, of the impedance feeder unit, and the length, in the vertical-direction, of the impedance feeder unit is 1.0˜1.3 times the length thereof in the horizontal direction, and as such, the present invention can be applied to a device utilizing multiple-input and multiple-output and high-speed data, the device having secured an ultra-wide band by means of a single antenna.
