MILLIMETER WAVE ANTENNA ARRAY

An antenna array may include a plurality of printed circuit boards (PCBs) oriented in a stacked arrangement, parallel to and spaced apart from one another. Each of the PCBs may include a linear array of antenna elements, which cooperate with the linear arrays of antenna elements on other PCBs to form a two-dimensional array of antenna elements. The PCBs may be supported at one end by a common backplate in a cantilevered manner, with the linear arrays of antenna elements located near the free end of the PCBs. The PCBs may include a thicker portion and a thinner portion, and the thinner portion may include a heat sink or other thermal dissipation structure.

The array can also include a dielectric top layer for loading apertures of the antenna array. The antenna elements can also include anomaly suppressors can be provided to cancel common-mode resonances from the radiators.

Tunable radio-frequency device having electrochromic and electro-active materials

An electrically controllable RF circuit that includes an EC cell and an EAP-based actuator configured to produce relative movement of an electrode of the electrochromic cell and an electrically conducting patch or another electrode electromagnetically coupled thereto. In one embodiment, the RF circuit operates as a tunable patch antenna whose frequency characteristics can be changed by changing the bias voltages applied to the EC cell and EAP-based actuator. Advantageously, the capability to tune the antenna using two different tuning mechanisms (i.e., a dielectric-permittivity based tuning mechanism implemented using the EC cell and a geometry-based tuning mechanism implemented using the EAP-based actuator) provides more degrees of control over the pertinent antenna characteristics compared to what is available in some other antenna designs. In another embodiment, the RF circuit can operate as a tunable RF filter whose frequency characteristics can similarly be changed using these two different tuning mechanisms.

DIPOLE ANTENNA ARRAY ELEMENTS FOR MULTI-PORT BASE STATION ANTENNA

A dipole antenna array element using crossed dipoles is provided. The arms of the crossed dipoles are spaced apart from a ground plane. The length of the arms of the crossed dipoles, as well as the height of the array element, is dependent on the lowest wavelength of signal for which the element is to be used with. To adjust the impedance of the antenna array element, a strip of conductive material is used to enclose an area about the arms of the dipoles. A patch component can also be used with the arms being between the patch component and the ground plane.
