CONFORMAL PHASED ARRAYS
Embodiments are directed configurations of antenna elements for conformal phased arrays (e.g., circular or cylindrical) to support either omnidirectional or directional high-gain beams. Antenna elements may be spaced about a circle or cylinder with a vertical and circumferential element spacing that is based on a wavelength of an operational frequency. Such a configuration of antenna elements enables easy scaling to different frequency bands and a straightforward extension from single-linear to dual-linear polarization. Furthermore, the antenna elements and their configurations enable conformal phased arrays to be formed as one integrated structure or with multiple modular structures.
DUAL-POLARIZATION RIPPLED REFLECTOR ANTENNA
An antenna may include a reflector and a multi-band feed assembly. A support member may be coupled to the multi-band feed assembly to orient the multi-band feed assembly for direct illumination of the reflector. The multi-band feed assembly may include first and second feeds, each having a respective septum polarizer coupled between a respective common waveguide and a respective pair of waveguides. A housing of the support member may contain the respective septum polarizers and the respective pairs of waveguides.
Method and apparatus for steering radiation on an outer surface of a structure
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system that includes a coupler having a structure that facilitates guiding electromagnetic waves along a transmission medium, wherein the electromagnetic waves propagate along the transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path, and a device coupled to an outer surface of the structure, wherein the device facilitates steering a wireless signal generated by a flow of an electrical current on the outer surface of the structure. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Method for upgrading a satellite antenna assembly and an associated upgradable satellite antenna assembly
A method for upgrading a dual-band antenna assembly to a tri-band antenna assembly is provided. The dual-band antenna assembly includes a main reflector, and first and second antenna feeds arranged in a coaxial relationship and directed toward the main reflector. The first and second antenna feeds are for first and second frequency bands, respectively. The method includes positioning a third antenna feed through a medial opening in a center of the main reflector, with the third antenna feed directed towards the first and second antenna feeds. The third antenna feed is for a third frequency band. A subreflector is positioned between the main reflector and the first and second antenna feeds. The subreflector includes a frequency selective surface (FSS) material that is reflective for the third frequency band and transmissive for both the first and second frequency bands.
Method and apparatus for reducing flow of currents on an outer surface of a structure
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system that can include a coupler that facilitates propagation of electromagnetic waves along a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path, and a suppressor coupled to an inner surface of the structure that facilitates at least a reduction in a flow of an electrical current from the inner surface of the structure to an outer surface of the structure. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Antenna structures for spatial power-combining devices
Spatial power-combining devices, and in particular, antenna structures for spatial power-combining devices are disclosed. A spatial power-combining device includes a plurality of amplifier assemblies, and each amplifier assembly includes an input antenna structure, an amplifier, and an output antenna structure. At least one of the input antenna structure and the output antenna structure may have a profile that includes tuning features, such as steps or other shapes, configured to tune or match with a desired operating frequency range. The tuning features may be configured with one or both of a signal conductor and a ground conductor of at least one of the input and output antenna structures. The tuning features may be non-symmetric across a particular signal conductor or a ground conductor, and the tuning features of a signal conductor may be non-symmetric with the tuning features of a ground conductor.
Method and apparatus for reducing radiation from an external surface of a waveguide structure
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system that guides electromagnetic waves that propagate along a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path, and at least reduces radiation on an outer surface of a structure reducing a flow of an electrical current from an inner surface of the structure to the outer surface of the structure. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Polarization selective coupler
A dual polarized waveguide device includes a first waveguide that defines a first linear signal propagation path, a second waveguide that defines a second linear signal propagation path that is parallel to the first linear signal propagation path, and a polarization selective coupling interface coupling the first and second waveguides, the polarization selective coupling interface being configured to enable horizontally polarized signals to pass between the first and second linear propagation paths and prevent vertically polarized signals from passing between the first and second linear propagation paths.
MITIGATION OF POLARIZATION MISMATCH BETWEEN REFLECTOR AND FEED ANTENNAS BY FEED PREDISTORTION
An apparatus and method for mitigating polarization mismatch in reflector antenna systems. A feed unit is configured to determine a polarization mismatch between a first polarization associated with a first wave and a second polarization associated with a reflector unit. The feed unit pre-distorts the first wave to achieve a compensated polarization for reducing and/or eliminating a polarization mismatch. The pre-distorted first wave having the compensated polarization is used to illuminate the reflector unit. A re-radiated wave is reflected by the reflector unit. Furthermore, the level of the re-radiated wave is increased as a result of the pre-distortion.
POLARIZATION CONVERSION INTEGRATED HORN ANTENNA AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
An integrated horn antenna with an integral polarization converter, and a method of manufacturing the integrated horn antenna are disclosed. The integrated horn antenna includes a horn, and a polarizer of which at least a portion is disposed in an internal space defined by an inner wall of the horn.
