An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises: an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave; a first layer coupled to the antenna feed and into which the feed wave propagates outwardly and concentrically from the feed; a second layer coupled to the first layer to cause the feed wave to be reflected at edges of the antenna and propagate inwardly through the second layer from the edges of the antenna; and a radio-frequency (RF) array coupled to the second layer, wherein the feed wave interacts with the RF array to generate a beam.

A coupled array antenna includes a feeding network layer and a plurality of patch antennas disposed on the feeding network layer. A first patch antenna is disposed on the feeding network layer, and a second patch antenna is disposed above and coupled to the first patch antenna without contacting. A plurality of coupled array antennas are connected in series through microstrips to form a coupled array antenna device to maximize the antenna gain and bandwidth.

Dynamic polarization and coupling control from a steerable cylindrically fed holographic antenna
An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave and a tunable slotted array coupled to the antenna feed.
Wideband Radial Line Slot Array Antenna
An antenna includes a waveguide defined by a gap between a backplane with radial support ribs and a facesheet, a teardrop-shaped feed pin at a center of the backplane, and a foam spacer between the backplane and facesheet. An outward facing side of the facesheet includes thermal paint. The facesheet includes pairs of through-hole slots for releasing portions of a wave of radiation in the waveguide to generate a transmit-beam or to receive the receive-beam to generate the wave of radiation. The pairs may be disposed as a spiral array about a center of the facesheet. Each of the pairs may include first and second slots. A length of the second slot is oriented approximately perpendicular to a length of the first slot. Dispositions of the slots are set by a computer process. The dispositions optimize a trade-off between transmit and receive gains.
Microelectronic package communication using radio interfaces connected through wiring
Microelectronic package communication is described using radio interfaces connected through wiring. One example includes a system board, an integrated circuit chip, and a package substrate mounted to the system board to carry the integrated circuit chip, the package substrate having conductive connectors to connect the integrated circuit chip to external components. A radio on the package substrate is coupled to the integrated circuit chip to modulate the data onto a carrier and to transmit the modulated data. A radio on the system board receives the transmitted modulated data and demodulates the received data, and a cable interface is coupled to the system board radio to couple the received demodulated data to a cable.
Array wall slot antenna for phased array calibration
Technologies directed to a slot antenna as a calibration antenna for a phased array antenna are described. The antenna structure includes a ground plane, a first antenna element, and a second antenna element. The first antenna element and the second antenna element are located in a first plane that is separated from the ground plane by a first distance. The second antenna element is separated from the first antenna element by a second distance. Conductive material is located in the first plane the first antenna element and the second antenna element. A portion of the conductive material adjacent to the first antenna element includes a slot antenna. A radio frequency feed point is located at the slot antenna. The conductive material electrically isolates the first antenna element and the second antenna element and radiates electromagnetic energy as a slot antenna.
Beam-steering antenna
According to an embodiment, an antenna includes a conductive antenna element, a voltage-bias conductor, and a polarization-compensation conductor. The conductive antenna element is configured to radiate a first signal having a first polarization, and the voltage-bias conductor is coupled to a side of the antenna element and is configured to radiate a second signal having a second polarization that is different from the first polarization. And the polarization-compensating conductor is coupled to an opposite side of the antenna element and is configured to radiate third a signal having a third polarization that is approximately the same as the second polarization and that destructively interferes with the second signal. Such an antenna can be configured to reduce cross-polarization of the signals that its antenna elements radiate.
Front-shielded, coplanar waveguide, direct-fed, cavity-backed slot antenna
Front-shielded, coplanar waveguide, direct-fed, cavity-backed slot antennas are described. Various implementations form an antenna unit capable of millimeter waveform and/or microwave waveform transmissions. A bottom shielding structure of the antenna unit defines a cavity, where various implementations include one or more dampening structures within the cavity. Some implementations includes a slot antenna within the cavity defined by the bottom shielding structure, such as a coplanar waveguide (CPW) direct-fed slot antenna, to form a cavity-backed slot antenna. Some implementations connect a top shielding structure to the bottom shielding structure to encase the slot antenna. In one or more implementations, the top shielding structure includes aperture windows to allow waveforms within a frequency range from about between 600 Megahertz (MHz) to 72 Gigahertz (GHz). and radiated by the slot antenna to radiate outward from the antenna unit.
