A device forming a photonic phased array antenna includes a low-refractive dielectric substrate, a nano-structured thin film formed on the low-refractive dielectric structure, and a high-refractive semiconductor waveguide formed over the low-refractive dielectric substrate and configured to operate in a single mode in the nano-structured thin film, wherein an antenna radiating a phase-modulated light wave to a free space is miniaturized to concentrate a radiated beam of a phased array antenna and to widen a scanning range.

A method and system are presented for managing operation of a conformal phased-array antenna. The method comprises: providing structural data about the antenna to be operated, said structural data comprising data indicative of a geometry of a curved radiating surface defined by an arrangement of N antenna elements of the phased array and data indicative of said arrangement of N antenna elements; utilizing input data indicative of a selected direction of antenna operation and processing said structural data about the antenna, said processing comprising determining operational data for each of the antenna elements defining a desired radiation pattern of the antenna for said selected direction, said operational data comprising amplitude, phase and polarization of radiation for each antenna element.

Millimeter wave phased array
A wave phased array is manufactured using additive manufacturing technology (AMT). The wave phased array includes a radiator, a radiator dilation layer supporting the radiator, a beamformer supporting the radiator dilation layer, a beamformer dilation layer supporting the beamformer, and a substrate support layer supporting the beamformer dilation layer. At least one of the radiator, the radiator dilation layer, the beamformer, the beamformer dilation layer and the substrate support layer is fabricated at least in part by an AMT process.
Low-complexity beam steering in array apertures
A transceiver for low-complexity beam steering. The transceiver has a first antenna array including a first sub-aperture with a first native beam steering angle and a second antenna array including a second sub-aperture with a second native beam steering angle different than the first native beam steering angle. The first antenna array and the second antenna array are arranged in the transceiver such that the first sub-aperture is combinable with the second sub-aperture to form a combined aperture when the first antenna array and the second antenna array are excited.

The present disclosure relates to a phased array antenna module. The phased array antenna module comprises: multiple antenna units, each of which comprises a first antenna electrode part, a second antenna electrode part spaced apart from the first antenna electrode part, a sensing electrode part electrically connected to the second antenna electrode part, and a ground electrode part spaced apart from the first antenna electrode part with the second antenna electrode part interposed therebetween; a capacitance sensing part to which the sensing electrode part is connected and which senses at least one among the capacitance change between the first antenna electrode part and the second antenna electrode part, the capacitance change between the first antenna electrode part and the ground electrode part, and the capacitance change between the second antenna electrode part and the ground electrode part, and outputs a capacitance sensing signal; and a module control part which is electrically connected to the capacitance sensing part and the second antenna electrode part of each of the antenna units, and controls the antenna units on the basis of the capacitance sensing signal generated by the capacitance sensing part.

A radiator is configured to radiate an electromagnetic signal in a direction parallel to a radiating axis of the antenna device. The resonant structure has a substantially planar shape parallel to the radiator, wherein the radiator is configured to radiate the electromagnetic signal in a first frequency band and the resonant structure is configured to have a resonant frequency within the first frequency band.
FPGA hardware implementation of a novel and computationally efficient DOA estimation method for coherent signals
A communications device includes a uniform linear array of M antennas and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) having pipelined stages in which execution of overlapping instructions estimate a direction of arrival of RF signals from multiple sources. A preprocessing stage of the FPGA includes at least one configurable logic block configured to apply forward/backward averaging spatial smoothing to a signal space matrix extracted from a covariance matrix in the preprocessing stage. The FPGA further includes at least one configurable logic block configured to compute the direction of arrival angle for the RF signals using a least squares method.

An antenna system has a two-dimensional field of view, yet can be implemented on a surface, such as on electronic or photonic integrated circuits. The antenna system includes an array of antennas disposed in a predetermined non-linear pattern and a two-dimensional beamforming network (BFN). The antenna system can be steered/selectively beamformed in two dimensions through beam port selection. The beamforming network is disposed entirely on a single first surface. The beamforming network has a one-dimensional array-side interface disposed on the first surface and a one-dimensional beam-side interface disposed on the first surface. The antennas of the array of antennas are individually communicably coupled to the array-side interface.
