20230093153 · 2023-03-23 ·

To reduce the suffering of the patient and enable easier removal of excess fluid such as pleural effusion fluid from the chest space, the disclosure provides a catheter for chest drainage intended for removal of excess fluid from a chest space of a living body and to be placed in the living body in such a manner as to extend from an inside of the chest space to an outside of the living body. The catheter includes a passage member formed of a flexible sheet and having a passage through which the excess fluid is to be drained, and an indwelling member formed of an elastic body and provided at a proximal end of the passage member. The indwelling member has an inlet that allows the excess fluid to flow through. The indwelling member includes a retaining portion spreading in a flange shape and being retainable at a chest wall.

DELIVERY OF MEDICATION TO A TREATMENT SITE WITHIN A BODY
20230071660 · 2023-03-09 ·

The devices, systems, and methods include a catheter including a flexible tube having a proximal end and a distal end, the catheter defining a lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end. The tube defines a plurality of slits. The distal end of the tube includes an atraumatic tip configured to be advanced through an opening in a skull to a target treatment site within the brain. A detachable connector is attached to the proximal end of the tube. Upon delivery of a fluid to the catheter from an external fluid source, the slits in the tube are responsive to pressure of the fluid within the catheter, by the slits opening to disperse the fluid from the lumen of the tube. The slits are responsive to a drop in pressure of the fluid within the catheter, by the slits closing.

Implantable interface device

An interface device for implantation in a subject includes a tissue integration layer and a crowning element. The tissue integration layer has a porous structure adapted for ingress of tissue to anchor the device when implanted. The crowning element is adapted for epidermal attachment when the device is implanted and is configured such that once implanted, part of the crowning element extends through the epidermis and is accessible from outside the subject's body. The porous structure of the tissue integration layer is interconnected for tissue ingress during implantation.

VARIABLE VOLUME INFUSION PORT

A variable volume infusion port is provided. The infusion port may include a port body having an internal fluid reservoir, a septum, a stem to fluidly couple to a catheter lumen, and a displaceable member disposed in the internal fluid reservoir. In a first position, the displaceable member is disposed proximate the septum, providing a relatively small fluid volume within the infusion port. Insertion of an injection device through the septum causes the displaceable member to move to a second location distal from the septum, providing a relatively large fluid volume within the infusion port for the duration the injection device remains in the infusion port. The displaceable member may include a rigid member operably coupled to a biasing element or a flexible member coupled to a biasing element.

Method and apparatus for enhancing the maturation rate of an arteriovenous fistula
11464959 · 2022-10-11 · ·

A method and apparatus are aimed to improve arteriovenous fistula maturation rate by treating the fistula with a crosslink agent solution (fixative solution). The fixative solution will crosslink proteins and biomolecules, allowing formation of crosslinks that stabilize or stable tissue structure. The method and apparatus will address factors that contribute to arteriovenous fistula maturation failure by stopping the neointimal hyperplasia growth after vascular injury and stabilizing the venous wall to prevent the lumen from narrowing.

Low-profile single and dual vascular access device

A low-profile access port for subcutaneous implantation within a patient. The access port can include a set of receiving cups which can be placed in fluid communication with a catheter. The set of receiving cups can provide a greater skin surface with which to access the port to avoid repeated penetrations at a single locus, such as during consecutive dialysis treatments. The access port can alternatively include needle penetrable arms or elongate chambers that also have a slim, low profile. The access port can include a needle guide to direct subsequent needle access to different insertion points to permit healing at the previous insertion points. The access port can be formed of a modular construction with a first conduit, a second conduit, and an outer shell. The outer shell can include a proximal portion and a distal portion. The access port can include a stem assembly and a locking member.

Occlusive chest wound seal with a one-way vent for preventing and treating tension pneumothorax

A vented chest wound seal for a penetrating chest wound includes a flexible sheet including a top surface and a bottom surface, an adhesive hydrogel layer covering a portion of the bottom surface of the flexible sheet, and a plurality of vent channels. The adhesive hydrogel layer includes an inner perimeter and an outer perimeter, and the outer perimeter forms a continuous perimeter of hydrogel along a bottom surface of the flexible sheet. A plurality of vent channels, each including a first opening to a space inside of the inner perimeter, extend radially outward to an outer terminal end vent to the top surface of the flexible sheet. The outer terminal end is spaced apart from the outer perimeter of the adhesive hydrogel layer towards the central portion of the chamber.

Surgical access assembly and method of using same
11464539 · 2022-10-11 · ·

A surgical access assembly and method of use is disclosed. The surgical access assembly comprises an outer sheath and an obturator. The outer sheath and obturator are configured to be delivered to an area of interest within the brain. Either the outer sheath or the obturator may be configured to operate with a navigational system to track the location of either within the brain. Once positioned at a desired location, the obturator is removed, leaving a distal end of the outer sheath adjacent an area of interest, and creating a working corridor. Interrogation of the area of interest may be performed to evaluate a disorder and/or abnormality, as well as evaluate treatment regimes. Interventional devices may also be introduced to the area of interest, as well as a variety of treatments.

Infusion and blood collection devices and methods

An apparatus for the uninterrupted administration of fluid to an animal body during clean blood collections is disclosed. Embodiments include an intravenous device defining a first fluid channel, wherein the first fluid channel is configured to selectively transport IV fluid to an animal body and draw a bodily fluid from the body, and a connection member configured to connect to a catheter to the first fluid channel and defining a concave distal end. A second fluid channel continuously provides IV fluid to a lumen coaxially located within the catheter. The concave surface is shaped to create a fluid flow pattern that quickly and completely removes residual bodily fluid remaining at the concave distal end. Embodiments include a concave surface defining an asymmetric funnel shape, a vertex of which is centered on the first fluid channel.
