APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR LOCATING A NERVE BLOCK SITE BY ESTABLISHING A REFERENCE PLANE AND DELIVERING ANESTHETIC TO THE SITE
The present disclosure relates to a local anesthetic delivery device for delivering anesthetic to a nerve block site comprising a surgical mechanism for establishing a reference plane for identifying the nerve block site, wherein the surgical mechanism establishes the reference plane at the peritoneum and uses a known fixed distance to the nerve plane above to accurately locate the nerve block site and deliver anesthesia.
Surgical instrument ports configured for use with wound retractors, and related devices and methods
A surgical port includes an end face with a channel extending through the end face. The channel has a cross section shaped to receive a surgical instrument cannula. A lateral wall extends around a perimeter of the end face. The lateral wall and end face enclose an open volume. A rim extends radially inward from the lateral wall and projects into the open volume. An apron portion extends radially outward from the lateral wall and in a direction axially away from the end face. Surgical systems may include surgical ports. Methods relate to using surgical ports.
SHEATH FOR SEALED ACCESS TO A VESSEL
A sheath for producing a fully sealed access to the interior of a vessel of an animal or human body comprises a base sheath having a tubular body defining a pass-through channel. The base sheath is adapted to be inserted into the vessel through a vessel aperture. The sheath further comprises an expansion device which is adapted to cooperate with the base sheath such that the outer diameter of the sheath increases in the region of the vessel aperture with the sheath in a stationary position in the vessel and upon actuation of the expansion device.
Trocar Cannula Assembly with Low Profile Insertion Configuration and Method of Manufacture
A cannula assembly having a retention member and a method of manufacture of the cannula assembly is provided. The cannula assembly includes a cannula and a sleeve disposed around the cannula from a proximal end to a distal end. The sleeve can include a balloon formed by a stretch blow molding process following local heating once advanced over the cannula. Once formed, the balloon can be conditioned to constrict against the cannula. A conditioning aid can be advanced over the balloon when it is still formable to constrict the balloon against the cannula.
Method and system for controlling pressurization of a patient cavity using a pressure sensor of a medical appliance
A method comprises positioning a medical appliance having a primary pressure sensor at or within a patient incision site and supplying an insufflation fluid to the patient cavity. The method further comprises measuring a pressure in the patient cavity by the primary pressure sensor and controlling the supply of insufflation fluid by an insufflator to the patient cavity based at least on the measured pressure. The method further comprises determining, by a processor associated with the insufflator, that the measured pressure may be inaccurate and, in response to determining that the measured pressure may be inaccurate, controlling, by the insufflator, the supply of the insufflation fluid to the patient cavity based at least on a pressure measured by a backup pressure sensor.
Trocar cannula assembly with low profile insertion configuration and method of manufacture

HYDRAULICALLY DRIVEN SURGICAL APPARATUS
A hydraulically driven surgical apparatus may be a tube enclosing a first channel filled with a first fluid. Changing a fluid pressure in the first channel may trigger a deformation of the tube. The deformation of the tube may perform an action associated with a surgical procedure. Related methods for steering a hydraulically driven surgical apparatus are also provided.
Percutaneous access pathway system
An improved method and device are provided for forming and/or maintaining a percutaneous access pathway. The device generally comprises an access pathway and attachment device. The provided assembly substantially reduces the possibility of iatrogenic infection while accessing and/or re-accessing a body space.
VASCULAR ACCESS DEVICE AND METHOD
The present disclosure concerns a vascular access device (1) comprising a vascular access tube (2), such as a cannula, having a distal end region (3) terminating in a tip (4) for insertion into a blood vessel (V) of a patient and at least one lumen (5) for infusing a medicament and/or for introducing one or more catheters there-through into the blood vessel (V). The device (1) further comprises a fixation mechanism (10) that is operable to secure or fix the distal end region (3) of the vascular access tube (2) with respect to the patient to inhibit or prevent withdrawal of the tip (4) from the blood vessel (V) and/or to inhibit or prevent overinsertion of the tip (4) into the blood vessel (V). The tip (4) of the vascular access tube (2) has an opening (6) for communication between the at least one lumen (5) of the access tube (2) and the blood vessel (V) of the patient into which the tip (4) is inserted, and the fixation mechanism (10) is desirably configured to position and fix the opening (6) of the tip (4) at or adjacent a wall (W) of the blood vessel (V) at a point of insertion of the tip (4). The fixation mechanism (10) is preferably configured to secure or fix the vascular access tube such that the access tube extends longitudinally at a predetermined angle (#) with respect to the blood vessel (V) at a point of insertion of the tip (4). The predetermined angle (#) may be within the range of about 20 degrees to about 90 degrees. The disclosure provides a corresponding method of implanting the vascular access device (1) in a patient.
Instrument Advancement Device Having an Indicator Marking
An instrument advancement device may include an instrument and an advancement feature configured to advance the instrument distally through the catheter assembly. The instrument advancement device may include a first indicator marking, a second indicator marking, and a third indicator marking. In response to aligning the advancement feature with the first indicator marking, a distal tip of the instrument may be configured to align with a distal tip of a catheter assembly. In response to aligning the advancement feature with the second indicator marking, the distal tip of the instrument may be advanced a distance distal to the distal tip of the catheter assembly. In response to aligning the advancement feature with the third indicator marking, the distal tip of the instrument may be advanced another distance distal to the distal tip of the catheter assembly.
