High voltage contact system

This disclosure provides a method and apparatus for connecting wires and interlocking wires to an electrical component. More specifically, an electrical connector that includes an insulative housing, two electrical contacts, and two interlocking contacts is disclosed. In an embodiment, each electrical contact includes a female end, a press-fit end, and a transition portion. The transition portion is designed such that the first female end and the first press-fit end may be properly aligned depending on the application. The transition portion also provides support and stability to the electrical contacts when they are disposed within the insulative housing. The insulative housing includes four contact recesses. In an embodiment, the electrical connector allows for the safe, efficient, re-usable, and reliable connection for connecting high-voltage wires to a corresponding sensitive electrical component (e.g., a printed circuit board).

A cassette assembly includes a housing for plugs having release latches, the housing including a support surface and first hinge feature. The assembly also includes a latch depressor including first and second ends, the latch depressor having a channel configured to receive the post. In response to a force applied to the compression lever with the first and second hinge features in cooperation, the channel in receipt of the post, and a plug in the housing, the compression lever rotates about the hinge, the post translates the force to the channel, the first end of the latch depressor abuts and pivots at the support surface, and the second end of the latch depressor contacts the release latch of the plug in the housing.

RECEPTACLE MODULE AND RECEPTACLE CAGE FOR A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A communication system includes a plug module having a plug housing and a plug latch and a receptacle module having a receptacle housing and a receptacle latch. The receptacle module includes a receptacle connector with a card slot receiving a plug module circuit board. The receptacle connector includes cables terminated to contacts and extending from the receptacle connector. A receptacle cage includes a front cage interface receiving the plug module and a rear cage interface receiving the receptacle module. The front cage interface matches the rear cage interface including a front latching feature and a rear latching feature interfacing with the plug and receptacle latches.
