Prior-art connectors require burdensome operations that involve connecting the male screws of the threaded retaining members mounted on an overmolded connector unit to the internal threads provided in a counterpart connector and tightening the screws by turning in order to prevent connector disengagement. In addition, repeatedly attaching and detaching the connector may create a problem by increasing the burden of such operations. The present invention provides a connector and a connector device that allows for easy attachment to and detachment from a counterpart connector by providing a locking mechanism that automatically locks upon connection to a counterpart connector and that permits unlocking by depressing buttons in a connector that includes a connector unit provided in a distal end section of a cable and a housing that holds said connector unit inside and is equipped with a locking mechanism for locking to a counterpart connector.

CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY

A connector assembly is provided with a first connector and a second connector. In the first connector, a first contact point portion, a first indented portion, a first lock portion and a regulated portion of a first terminal are supported by a spring portion. A first holding member holding the first terminal has a regulating portion. The regulated portion is located downward of the regulating portion and faces the regulating portion. In the second connector, a second terminal held by a second holding member has an insertion end portion, a second contact point portion, a second indented portion and a second lock portion. In a mated state, the first lock portion and the second lock portion are located between the first indented portion and the second indented portion and face each other in the up-down direction.

An electrical cable connecting system includes a modular electrical or electronic wiring device assembly, in which an electrical or electronic wiring device and a connector may be electrically coupled via pig-tail jumper electrical wires. The connector may be coupled to cable electrical wires fitted with a cable protector to protect the electrical wire conductors therein. The connector may include internal electrical terminals for electrically coupling building electrical cable wires with corresponding jumper electrical wires. The connector may be mechanically and electrically coupled to and directly terminate one or more building electrical cables, which may provide power to or from one or more electrical or electronic wiring devices by establishing an electrical pathway from a source of electrical power, through the building electrical cable wires, the connector, the pig-tail jumper electrical wires and an electrical or electronic wiring device.

Securing Apparatus and Method

When securing a watthour meter to a meter box base, a meter sealing ring is typically used. A quick-fastening watthour meter retaining member is provided, in certain embodiment of the present invention, to reduce installation time and generally comprises a circular band, a connector housing member, and a receiver housing member. The connector housing member and a receiver housing member are preferably mounted to the terminus ends of the circular band. A portion of the connector housing member, comprising locking protrusions or “teeth”, is adapted to engage, with a ratchet-type action, in one example embodiment, and fasten into the receiver housing member, which contains, a pre-installed “padlock type” frangible sealing device in an example embodiment. Removal of the ring is accomplished by simply cutting, in one embodiment, and removing the frangible sealing device and allowing the housings to disengage from each other.
