Disinfection Cap
A disinfection cap is described for connection to a medical connector; the disinfection cap includes a housing having a top wall and sidewall forming a cavity. In one or more embodiments, a retention rod forming a fluid reservoir is disposed within the cavity for retaining disinfectant. In one or more embodiments, a corrugated capsule is disposed within the cavity for retaining disinfectant. Pressure buildup within the cavity due to insertion of a luer connector causes expulsion of disinfectant, thereby disinfecting the luer connector.
Disinfecting Cap with Re-Use Prevention
A medical connector for connection to a corresponding medical connector is described. The medical connector includes a housing having a radial protrusion and a cavity, the cavity defined by a closed end, an open end, a partially cylindrical sidewall and a radial sidewall. The medical connector further includes an insert disposed within the housing, the insert including a locking tab having at least one thread on the inner wall of the locking tab and a recessed notch on the outer wall of the locking tab. The at least one thread of the locking tab engages at least one thread of a corresponding medical connector. Disposed within the cavity, the recessed notch rotates from a first position to a second position, wherein the second position contains a locking structure for non-removably securing the insert to the housing, while allowing for removal of the corresponding medical connector.
Disinfection Cap
A disinfection cap is described for connection to a medical connector, the disinfection cap includes a housing having a top wall and sidewall forming a cavity, an open cell foam structure disposed within the cavity and a closed cell foam structure disposed against the open cell foam structure, the closed cell foam structure having an interference fit between the closed cell foam structure and the inner surface of the housing. The closed cell foam structure may have a polygonal or star shape, wherein fluid can flow through a gap formed between the closed cell foam structure and the inner surface of the cavity. The open cell foam structure may be impregnated with disinfectant, whereby compression of the open cell foam structure causes excretion of the disinfectant upon insertion of a luer connector.
Cap For Male And Female Threaded Fittings
A cap for disinfecting a needleless connector is described herein. The cap includes a housing having a cavity and an insert disposed within. The insert includes one or more cantilevered prongs disposed on a distal wall of the insert. The one or more cantilevered prongs are configured to bend upon insertion of the needleless connector. On an outer sidewall of the one or more cantilevered prongs are one or more ledges extending at essentially a right angle to the one or more cantilevered prongs, the one or more ledges being configured to push against the sidewall of the housing to resist further bending of the one or more cantilevered prongs upon advancement of the needleless connector.
Systems and methods to improve instrument guidance within an intravenous catheter assembly
A catheter assembly and/or an introducer may include one or more features configured to guide a probe and/or a catheter distally through a septum. The catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter and the septum. The catheter adapter may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a lumen extending therebetween. In some embodiments, the septum may be disposed within the lumen. The septum may include a proximal surface that is tapered inwardly in a distal direction such that the proximal surface of the septum is configured to guide the probe and/or the catheter distally through the septum. The catheter assembly may be configured to receive an introducer, which may include an introducer element. A proximal end of the introducer element may include another proximal surface that is tapered inwardly in the distal direction such that the other proximal surface is configured to guide the probe or the catheter distally through the septum.
ANTIMICROBIAL INSERTS FOR STOPCOCK MEDICAL CONNECTORS
Various embodiments of an antimicrobial insert for a stopcock medical connector are provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to an antimicrobial insert that is seated within at least a portion of the annular bore of the connector's tap, wherein fluid within the annular bore contacts the antimicrobial insert, thereby preventing microbial proliferation within the stopcock medical connector.
CAPPING AND CLEANSING DEVICES FOR NEEDLEFREE VASCULAR ACCESS CONNECTORS
Capping and cleansing devices for capping and cleansing needlefree connectors, particularly luer access devices such as needlefree vascular access connectors, and methods for using said devices, are described. The devices of the invention each include interconnected inner and outer housings that a user can transition between a locked or engaged position to allow the inner and outer housings to rotate in unison and an unlocked or disengaged position that allows the outer housing to rotate independently of the inner housing, and a compressible cleansing matrix secured in the device (preferably in a well in the outer housing).
Method and antimicrobial cap for disinfecting a port
An antimicrobial cap and method for inhibiting the growth of microbes and disinfecting a port are disclosed. The antimicrobial cap comprises an assembly that includes an outer cap, an inner component and a pad disposed within the inner component and impregnated with an antimicrobial element in order to disinfect the port. The antimicrobial cap includes flexible attachment features configured to engage a port and a lockout mechanism configured to prevent and disable re-use of the cap, allowing the disinfection of different types of ports and connectors and safe disengagement of a single-use cap.
Antimicrobial cap for disinfecting a port and method
An antimicrobial cap and method for inhibiting the growth of microbes and disinfecting a port are disclosed. The antimicrobial cap comprises an assembly that includes an outer cap, an inner member and a pad disposed within the inner member and impregnated with an antimicrobial agent in order to disinfect the port. The antimicrobial cap includes attachment features and a lock out mechanism allowing the disinfection of different types of ports and connectors and their safe disengagement and thereafter enabling the lock out mechanism in order to prevent re-use of the antimicrobial cap.
IV access port cap for providing antimicrobial protection
A cap is configured to provide antimicrobial protection to a female luer port of an intravenous device. The cap distributes an antimicrobial solution within the intraluminal surfaces of the port when the cap is connected to the port. A cap may also be designed to distribute an antimicrobial solution around the exterior surfaces of the port. Once connected to a port, the cap can form a seal that minimizes the evaporation of the antimicrobial solution from within the lumen of a port. The cap can therefore provide antimicrobial protection against another device that is connected to the port once the cap is removed.
