Engine assembly with vibration-isolated ignition coil apparatus
An engine ignition coil assembly disclosed herein provides an ignition coil housing that may be mounted on an engine block assembly and that is isolated from engine vibrations. The engine ignition coil assembly comprises an ignition coil housing. The ignition coil housing contains an ignition coil apparatus. An electrical connector for the ignition coil apparatus is mounted to the ignition coil housing. An elastomeric boot supports the ignition coil housing and may be disposed on an engine block assembly such that ignition coil housing is spaced apart from the engine block assembly by the elastomeric boot. A single fastener extends through a fastener opening in the ignition coil housing parallel with the elastomeric boot. An elastomeric isolator is disposed on the ignition coil housing at the fastener opening around the single fastener. A proximal end of the single fastener may be fixed to the engine block assembly.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder bank comprising multiple cylinders, each cylinder comprises a rocker arm box for accommodating rocker arms of a valve train, and each cylinder comprises a rocker arm cover pivotable relative to the rocker arm box. The rocker arm cover carries an ignition coil contactable with a spark plug via an extension extending through a protective tube between the cylinder head and the rocker arm box or the rocker arm cover. The rocker arm cover comprises a first portion with a first introduction aid, into which the protective tube is threaded during closure of the rocker arm cover and a second portion with a second introduction aid, into which the spark plug extension is threaded during closure of the rocker arm cover to automatically and self-centringly form an electrical contact between the spark plug extension and the ignition coil.
Ignition apparatus having a spring for electrically connecting a spark plug
An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a spark plug, an ignition coil with a voltage connection, and a spring for electrically connecting the spark plug to the voltage connection. A continuous spring wire in the form of external turns extends from an ignition coil-side end of the spring to a spark plug-side end of the spring. The spring wire at the spark plug-side end continues in the form of internal turns within the external turns in a direction toward the ignition coil-side end.

Apparatus for Igniting a Fuel Mixture, Transmission Element for Transmitting an Ignition Signal, Ignition De-Vice and Circuit Device
The invention relates to an apparatus for igniting a fuel mixture. Set apparatus comprises an ignition system for generating a high-voltage ignition voltage as well as a circuit device comprising a circuit for superimposing a high-frequency signal on to the high-voltage ignition voltage. The apparatus further comprises a spark plug in an engine block as well as a transmission element for transmitting the ignition voltage, onto which the high-frequency signal has been superimposed, to the spark plug. The transmission element includes a contact element which is provided with an electrically conductive coating along at least one portion of the longitudinal axis of the contact element, the impedance of the coding being lower than the impedance of the contact element.
Ignition coil unit and ignition system, capable of suppressing deformation of the seal section, used in internal combustion engine
An ignition coil unit is attached to an engine body. The engine body includes a cylinder head having a plug hole and a head cover that covers the cylinder head by including an opening hole facing the plug hole. The ignition coil unit includes a coil unit that generates a high voltage and a cylindrical coupling unit that connects the coil unit with a spark plug. The coupling unit includes a flexible sealing section fitting to an outer peripheral surface of the high tension tower and a harder joint fitting to a tip of the sealing section. The sealing section includes an adhesion portion to tightly contact the head cover and a neck portion at least between the adhesion portion and the joint in a Z-axis direction. The neck portion is formed by partially constricting an outer peripheral surface of the sealing section radially inside.
Ignition device
An ignition device for generating a spark discharge at a spark plug based on a first voltage from a first supply and a second voltage from a second supply. The second voltage is higher than the first voltage. In the ignition device, a primary coil includes a center tap, a first terminal on a ground side of the center tap, and a second terminal on a first-supply side of the center tap, and a secondary coil is electromagnetically coupled to the primary coil and electrically connected to the spark plug. A first switch is configured to make or break an electrical connection between the first terminal and ground, a second switch is configured to make or break an electrical connection between the second supply and the center tap, and a third switch is configured to pass or interrupt a current from the second terminal to the first supply. A controller is configured to control an on/off state of each of the first to third switches.
