Fluid-management system and method
A fluid-management system for selectively draining fluid from a body cavity includes a valve assembly and a tube for carrying fluid from a body cavity of a person to the valve assembly. The valve assembly is configured to be positioned external to the person's body and comprises (i) an inlet, (ii) an outlet, (iii) one or more one-way valves positioned between the inlet and outlet that are each configured to open and close based on fluctuations in pressure between the person's body cavity and the one-way valve, and (iv) an adjustable outlet lock configured to selectively prevent fluid movement through the outlet.
CHEST VALVE FOR TREATING PNEUMOTHORAX
A chest valve including: a housing including an inlet configured to connect to a chest tube, an outlet and a fluid passage from the inlet to the outlet; and a one-way valve within the housing and included in the flow passage, wherein the one-way valve includes: (i) a first tubular strip wherein having an internal air passage and a first layer defining the air passage, wherein the first layer has a first thickness and the internal air passage of the first tubular strip is included in fluid passage of the housing; and (ii) a second tubular strip wherein having a second layer with a second thickness with a second thickness greater than the first thickness, wherein an outer surface of the second tubular strip is adjacent and overlaps an outer surface of the first tubular strip.
METHOD TO SECURE AN ELASTIC COMPONENT IN A VALVE
An apparatus for controlling fluid flow to provide long-term access to the vascular system, and methods of making the same, are disclosed. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention describe a wedge or other similarly shaped geometric features for fixing an elastic component and controlling an internal stress of the elastic component.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR ENCOURAGING NASAL BREATHING
Devices and methods are provided for inhibiting mouth breathing and/or improving nasal breathing, e.g., for PAP users or users with other sleeping problems. In an exemplary embodiment, an adhesive device is provided that includes an elongate membrane comprising first and second ends and side edges extending between the first and second ends, a first surface comprising an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer may be a low tack adhesive that is adherent to skin, yet is also easily removable without leaving significant residue. Optionally, the device may include one or more valves to provide one-way flow across the membrane, one or more weakened regions in the membrane, and/or one or more tabs to facilitate removal of the membrane from over a user's mouth.
Diaphragm check valve
A check valve, including a valve and a valve support surface, to permit a fluid to move through the check valve in a first direction and resist a fluid flow through the valve in a second direction, the valve having a valve diaphragm and an isolating bridge, with a portion of the valve engaging against valve support surface to resist deformation or stretching of the valve when a backflow of fluid into the check valve occurs. The valve support surface having a first surface portion and a second surface portion, and the valve positioned with the valve diaphragm spaced apart from the first surface portion, and the isolating bridge spaced apart from the second surface portion.
Hemostasis valve orientation relative to the fluid space in a introducer sheath
A hemostasis device includes a valve, the valve being sized and configured to be disposed entirely within a handle of a medical device, the valve including a rim, the rim being sized and configured to seal with a lumen of the handle of the medical device.
FLUID CONNECTOR SYSTEM
Fluid connector systems including first and second valve assemblies couplable together to form a fluid pathway therethrough, and can resist fluid flow through the connector system when the valve assemblies are separated from each other, the first valve assembly including a post forming a fluid passage, and the second valve assembly including a valve plug positioned within a bore and configured to obstruct a fluid passage, such that when the valve assemblies are separated, a slit of the valve plug resist fluid flow therethrough, and when the valve assemblies are coupled together the post extends through the compressible valve and engagement of a ridge of the valve plug against the post resist fluid flow between the post and the ridge.
PORT-FLUSHING CONTROL VALVE
A valve is disclosed that has a body with an inlet, an outlet, and a needleless access port coupled to the body. The access port has an interior space and is configured to be actuated by a needleless connector. The inlet is selectively coupled to the outlet through the interior space such that fluid entering the inlet entirely flows through the interior space to the outlet.
MEDICAL CONNECTOR
A medical connector includes: a first connection section that defines a first passage, the first connection section comprising a first tubular portion; a second connection section that defines a second passage communicating with the first passage, the second connection section comprising a second tubular portion inserted into the first tubular portion; and a rotation control section that controls relative rotation of the first connection section and the second connection section in a connection state.
