Cable joints in wet or semi-wet cable systems
20230116698 · 2023-04-13 ·

A dry joint for jointing a cable with a wet or semi-wet/semi-dry design to a cable with a wet, semi-wet/semi-dry or dry design and a method of manufacturing a cable dry joint are provided. A cable with a wet or semi-wet/semi-dry design having an end of cable water barrier is also provided. A dry joint water barrier suitable for rendering a joint dry is also provided, where at least one of the jointed cables is of a wet or semi-wet/semi-dry design.

Method and Device for Positioning Components on a Cable

A device and method of positioning a component on a cable. The method includes: moving a collet into position on the component; engaging the component with the collet; moving the collet with the component positioned thereon into alignment with an end of the cable; securing the collet to the end of the cable; moving the component from the collet to the cable; and removing the collet from the end of the cable.

Insulation machining in a cable joint

A method for improving the properties of a joint between two cable ends having obtaining two cable ends, having uncovered conductors being joined in a connection zone, each cable end also including an uncovered insulation zone including uncovered insulation formed as a cone adjacent the uncovered conductor, covering the conductors with an additional insulation layer, measuring the additional insulation layer and the cones, determining the geometry of the cones and the additional insulation layer based on the measurements, determining a deviation of the geometry from a desired geometry of the cones and the additional insulation layer, where the desired geometry includes a smooth transition between two zones, determining, based on the deviation determination, material to be removed from the cones and the additional insulation layer achieving the desired geometry, and removing the material from the cones and the additional insulation layer.

Reinforced water barrier over a joint

A reinforced water barrier over a joint between power cables is suited for subsea cables having different water barrier/sheathing designs. The reinforced water barrier comprises an intermediate water barrier made of lead or a lead alloy which stretches over the joint and is attached to the underlaying water barriers of the joined cables, and which is reinforced by being coated with a layer of polyethylene based adhesive followed by a layer of polymeric outer sheathing. The adhesive layer and the layer of polymeric outer sheathing are thermally set by a heat treatment.

METHOD TO MINIMIZE ROUGHNESS ON CABLE END INSULATION SURFACES

A method is provided for preparing an uncovered insulation layer surface of an end section of a cable. The uncovered insulation layer surface has an advantageous low roughness. A method is also provided for jointing two cables, and for preparing a termination assembly on a cable, a cable end, a joint, and a termination assembly.

A splice assembly for engaging a conductor includes a brush configured to engage the conductor. The brush includes a housing having a first portion and a second portion. The housing defines a housing axis extending between the first portion and the second portion. The first portion defines a cavity having an open end. The second portion defines a bore. A diameter of the cavity is larger than a diameter of the bore. The cavity and the bore are configured to receive the conductor therethrough. The brush further includes a brush member secured within the cavity and positioned proximate the open end.

WIRING HARNESS
20170338005 · 2017-11-23 ·

A wiring harness capable of reliably blocking a leak path after an endurance test and exhibiting a good waterproof performance over a long period of time. The wiring harness has a waterproof structure in which a spliced portion is formed by joining conductors that are exposed by partially removing coating materials, and a conductor exposed portion composed of a bundle of the exposed conductors. An outer peripheral surface of each coating material end part of each insulated wire adjacent to the conductor exposed portion are continuously covered with a waterproofing agent to seal the conductor exposed portion and is configured using a reactive adhesive having a gel fraction in a range of 20 to 70% as the waterproofing agent.
