Method and System for Detecting Location of Fault in a Cable
20230400499 · 2023-12-14 · ·

A system and method for detecting location of fault in a cable receives disturbance data from first and second protection relays when one of the first protection relay and/or the second protection relay detects a fault in a section of the cable. The system extracts voltage and current data for each segment in the section using the disturbance data, cable parameters and length of each segment, and determines a fitness value for each segment in the section using the extracted voltage and current data. The system identifies a segment with a lowest fitness value from the fitness value determined for each segment in the section by comparing the fitness value of each segment with the fitness value of subsequent segments in the section and detects the segment with the lowest fitness value as fault location in the cable.

An input power supply selection circuit includes a load, at least one input power supply to provide an operation power supply for the load, an input selection circuit to select the at least one input power supply as the operation power supply for the load, a sensing and control module to control the input selection circuit to switch the operation power supply for the load, and a load switch branch to control the load to be connected or disconnected. The sensing and control module controls the load switch branch to be connected or disconnected, and when the load switch branch is disconnected, the load and the at least one input power supply are not electrically coupled. Therefore, a contact protection design is simplified and a switching capacity requirement of the load switch branch is lowered.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IMPROVING RESTRICTED EARTH FAULT PROTECTION

A transformer system including a transformer including a set of wye windings, a three-phase current transformer, a neutral-current transformer, and a controller. The three-phase current transformer outputs a first signal indicative of a three-phase current conducting through the set of wye windings and the three-phase current transformer. The neutral-current transformer couples the current flowing from the ground to the neutral node of the transformer, and outputs a second signal indicative of a neutral current conducting from the ground node to the neutral node of the transformer. The controller receives the first signal and the second signal, determines whether an external ground fault condition or an internal ground fault condition is present based on the three-phase current and the neutral current, and determines whether a wiring error is present for the three-phase current transformer or the neutral-current transformer based on the three-phase current and the neutral current.

DETECTING ELECTRICAL ARCING IN HOUSEHOLD ELECTRICAL WIRING

Various embodiments disclosed herein provide techniques for detecting electrical arcing in an electrical system. A powerline communications (PLC) application executing on a network communications device acquires, via a PLC modem, first voltage readings associated with an electrical circuit. The PLC application performs one or more operations based on the first voltage readings to determine that an electrical arcing condition is present within the electrical circuit. The PLC application performs a remedial operation in response to determining that the electrical arcing condition is present.

HIGH-IMPEDANCE FAULT DETECTION USING WIRELESS CURRENT TRANSFORMERS

The present disclosure pertains to systems and methods for monitoring and protecting an electric power system. In one embodiment, a system may comprise line-mounted wireless current transformers to measure at least one parameter of an alternating current (AC), receive a synchronization signal at which to measure the AC, and send a message comprising the measured AC. The system may also comprise an intelligent electronic device (IED) to send the synchronization signal to and receive the messages from the line-mount wireless current transformers, determine whether a high-impedance fault (HiZ) exists between the line-mounted wireless current transformers, and implement a control action based on the existence of the HiZ fault.
