Self-disconnecting power source apparatus
A power source apparatus and associated method for protecting an electrical device such as a mobile device from an electric shortage are disclosed. The power source apparatus can be provided within the electrical device to provide power to device components. The power source apparatus can include a power source such as a battery, one or more triggering components, and a disconnection component. The triggering component(s) can be connected to a moisture/fluid detection circuit of the electrical device. Upon receiving an input signal indicative of detected moisture/fluid within the electrical device, the triggering component(s) send a disconnection signal to the disconnection component which may be a solenoid. The disconnection component disconnects the power source from device circuitry of the electrical device. The power source apparatus can also include a reconnection component that can be manually actuated by a user or automatically actuated to reconnect the power source to the device circuitry.

Methods, Apparatuses and Systems for Sensing Exposure of Electronic Devices to Moisture
Systems, devices and methods for sensing moisture within an electronic device are disclosed. A device may include a housing and a display defining and exterior of an electronic device and an interior of the electronic device. Further, the device may include an integrated circuit (IC) within the electronic device and comprising a control element. The device may also include a moisture sensor such as an inductive sensor, a capacitance sensor, or both. The moisture sensor, which may be part of the IC, together with the control element may sense moisture within the electronic device
HAZARD DETECTION SYSTEM FOR PORTABLE ELECTRICAL DEVICES
A power control apparatus can include a power circuit configured to transfer power to a load circuit. The apparatus can also include one or more environmental sensors configured to register environmental data including at least one of movement, hazardous gas, environmental temperature, environmental moisture, and collision data associated with the apparatus. The apparatus can also include a power controller circuit operatively connected to the one or more environmental sensors and the power circuit, the power controller circuit being configured to receive the environmental data from the one or more environmental sensors, determine whether the received environmental data exceeds a predetermined threshold, and in response to determining that the received environmental data exceeded a predetermined threshold, interrupting supply of power from the power circuit to the load circuit.
Apparatuses and methods for controlling power to electronic devices
Methods and apparatuses for detecting when an electronic device, preferably a portable electronic device (PED) in some embodiments, has been exposed to moisture, and inhibiting the flow of electrical power to the electronic device when the moisture is too high or increasing too fast are disclosed. Embodiments sample air within the device, measure the moisture in the sampled air, inhibit the connection of electrical power to the device if the moisture exceeds a threshold, and permit the connection of electrical power to the device if the moisture is below a threshold. Some embodiments measure the moisture in the ambient air to improve effectiveness. Other embodiments allow resetting of a tripped condition. Other embodiments include constant sampling of air from within the device to assist drying, and inhibiting application of power to the device until the device is sufficiently dry. Still other embodiments interrupt power from the battery within the device.
