A method for reducing and/or managing energy-related stress in an electrical system includes processing electrical measurement data from or derived from energy-related signals captured by at least one intelligent electronic device (IED) in the electrical system to identify and track at least one energy-related transient in the electrical system. An impact of the at least one energy-related transient on equipment in the electrical system is quantified, and one or more transient-related alarms are generated in response to the impact of the at least one energy-related transient being near, within or above a predetermined range of the stress tolerance of the equipment. The transient-related alarms are prioritized based in part on at least one of the stress tolerance of the equipment, the stress associated with one or more transient events, and accumulated energy-related stress on the equipment. One or more actions are taken in the electrical system in response to the transient-related alarms to reduce energy-related stress on the equipment in the electrical system.

Phase-selective interruption for three-phase AC circuits with Thomson coil actuated switches and breakers

A system and method for interrupting power in a three-phase power system interrupts power in the faulted phase and the next sequential phase at high speeds, while interrupting power in the remaining phase at a normal operation speed. Limiting high-speed interruption to only two phases requires significantly less energy storage than implementing high-speed interruption in all three phases. When hybrid circuit interrupters are used, the need to wait for a zero-crossing in the current signal in order to initiate interruption operations is eliminated.

PROTECTION FOR SINGLE FAULT IN WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER

A wireless power transfer system and devices that are configured to perform techniques to detect a single fault in primary processing circuitry by using second, independent processing circuitry. The techniques may include calculating and verifying an integrated output power dose. Verifying the integrated output power dose may include, for example, secondary processing circuitry calculating the integral of power delivered over a predetermined time duration and compares the calculated integral to an expected integral dose curve stored at a memory location accessible by the secondary processing circuitry. The detection techniques may also include determining a maximum output power profile. The secondary processing circuitry may receive a commanded output power target from the primary processing circuitry and compare the commanded output power to the maximum allowed output power vs. time.

A method for controlling a network of inverter-based resources connected to a power grid during a disturbance includes employing a distributed transient virtual impedance algorithm among the network of inverter-based resources (IBRs) after a start of or in anticipation of the disturbance. The distributed transient virtual impedance algorithm includes determining, via at least one of one or more power flow equations, one or more energy function equations, and one or more estimated power capabilities, a virtual impedance control parameter and a modified power reference for one or more of the IBRs. Further, the method includes activating the virtual impedance control parameter and the modified power reference for one or more of the IBRs to ride through the disturbance in a manner that also optimizes use of the one or more estimated power capabilities for one or more of the IBRs and that preserves synchronism between at least two of the inverter-based resources and/or between at least one of the inverter-based resources and the power grid. Thus, the virtual impedance control parameter temporarily reduces voltage proportionally with output current for one or more of the IBRs, thereby resulting in a reduction of local power output of one or more of the IBRs.
