Wireless inductive power transfer

An inductive power transfer system is arranged to transfer power from a power transmitter to a power receiver via a wireless power signal. The system supports communication from the power transmitter to the power receiver based on load modulation of the power signal. The power receiver transmitting a first message to the power transmitter which comprises a standby power signal requirement for the power signal during a standby phase. The power transmitter receives the message, and when the system enters the standby phase, the power transmitter provides the power signal in accordance with the standby power signal requirement during. A power receiver configurable standby phase is provided which may for example allow devices to maintain battery charge or to provide fast initialization of the power transfer phase.

Coupling interface and method of operation

A charging surface comprising multiple conductive regions can be used to charge an electronic device placed on it the surface so that electrodes on the device engage respective conductive regions of the surface. In order to distinguish such chargeable devices from short circuits and other spurious connections, the coupling interface associated with the charging surface is controlled so as to establish a text voltage across each pair of conductive regions in sequence, and look for pairs of conductive region demonstrating a voltage drop characteristic of a particular class of device. Relationships between every pair of conductive regions can be determined and recording, and the voltage level supplied to each conductive region set accordingly. The coupling interface may furthermore operate to identify device classes, and to set supply voltages or establish additional connections on the basis of stored device class information. Discrimination on the basis of voltage drop can be enhanced by the provision of a coupling adapted associated with a device to be detected, where the coupling adapter demonstrates an anti-inversion characteristic, for example implemented with a MOSFET, across at least a pair of these electrodes.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A COMMUNICATIONS MODULE FOR A POWER TOOL SYSTEM

A system includes a battery pack to receive power tool operating information and to gather battery pack operating information. The system also includes a communications module having a first interface and a second interface. The communications module removably couples with the battery pack via the first interface, and the communication module receives a portion of the power tool operating information and/or a portion of the battery pack operating information via the first interface. The communications module transmits the received information to a cloud-based computing device via a cellular transceiver.

A power supply has multiple DC power sources converted from an AC power source. The power supply has an isolated converter converting the AC power source into an intermediate DC power source, and non-isolated converters converting the intermediate DC power source into the DC power sources, regulated at target output values respectively. A communication channel connects the isolated converter and one of the non-isolated converters, and transmits a feedback signal in association with the target output values. The isolated converter, in response to the feedback signal, regulates the intermediate DC power source at an intermediate target value related to the target output values.

The present disclosure relates to systems, devices, and methods for analyzing health of vehicle batteries. Vehicle batteries tend to degrade over time. The described systems, devices, and methods quantify this degradation (or quantify remaining health of the battery) by comparing average energy used to charge or discharge the battery by a charge level unit to a nominal quantity of energy used to charge or discharge a battery in optimal health by a charge level unit. Charge data for previous charge events of the vehicle battery can be used in the calculation, and can be filtered by identifying qualified charge events based on at least one of a number of metrics. Usage data for previous usage events of the vehicle battery can be used in the calculation, and can be filtered by identifying qualified usage events or subgroups of usage event based on at least one of a number of metrics.
