In a particular illustrative embodiment of the present invention, an inter-island power transmission system is disclosed. An electronic box is placed on each end of a medium voltage three phase power cable running between two islands. The electronic box senses an open cable on the three phase cable and switches to direct current power transmission on the remaining two good cables. The direct current power is converted back to three phase power transmission on the receiving end of the direct current power.

CONFIGURING COMMUNICATIONS FOR A LOAD CONTROL SYSTEM

A load control system may include multiple control devices that may send load control messages to load control devices for controlling an amount of power provided electrical loads. To prevent collision of the load control messages, the load control messages may be transmitted using different wireless communication channels. Each wireless communication channel may be assigned to a load control group that may include control devices and load control devices capable of communicating with one another on the assigned channel. A control device may send load control messages to a load control device within a transmission frame allocated for transmitting load control messages. The transmission frame may include equal sub-frames and load control messages may be sent at a random time within each sub-frame. Control devices may detect a status event within a sampling interval to offset transmissions from multiple control devices based on detection of the same event.

POWER CONTROL SYSTEM, METHOD, AND POWER CONTROL APPARATUS

In a power control system, a server transmits to each facility data generated by estimating a variation with time in power consumption in each facility and an upper limit value of power capable of being supplied to each facility. A HEMS controller calculates the sum of amounts of electric power consumed over an upper limit value on the basis of estimation data. A power conditioner reserves the power corresponding to the result of calculation in a storage battery in advance. The power conditioner supplies the power corresponding to the power storage capacity reserved in the storage battery to the facility in a case where the power consumption in the facility exceeds the upper limit value such that the upper limit of the power to be supplied from the system to the facility is set to the upper limit value.

SYSTEM, METHOD, MOBILE TERMINAL AND COMPUTER SOFTWARE FOR PROVIDING ELECTRIC ENERGY TO USERS
20170131733 · 2017-05-11 ·

A system for providing electric energy to users includes a server node, a set of supply nodes and a set of mobile terminals. One or more communication networks connect the server node to the supply nodes. Each supply node provides output energy via a remote-controlled outlet. Each mobile terminal communicates with the server node over a wireless interface. The supply nodes repeatedly send respective instruction inquiries to the server node, which also receives activation requests from the mobile terminals specifying a particular outlet and an identity of a mobile-terminal user. In response to an activation request, the server node checks if the user identity is authorized to activate the outlet, and if so; in response to an instruction inquiry from a first supply node associated with the outlet, sends an activation accept to the first supply node enabling output of electric energy from the outlet.

Power load control with dynamic capability

A load control device is directly connected to a power utility line carrying electrical power using alternating current (AC) and to a load provided by a device located at premises. At the load control device, values are monitored for one or more load-responsive parameters of the electrical power over a period of time. A nominal value is determined for each of the one or more load-responsive parameters based upon the monitored values over the period of time. Threshold values are determined for the one or more load-responsive parameters based upon an acceptable deviation from the corresponding nominal value. A load-responsive parameter is detected as being outside of the threshold values. The load control device is then used to interrupt the providing of power to the load in response to the one or more load-responsive parameters being detected as being outside of the threshold values.

Monitoring of distributed power harvesting systems using DC power sources

A monitoring system and method for monitoring performance of individual powers sources in a distributed power source system. A monitoring module is coupled to each of the power sources, or to each string of serially connected power sources, to monitor and collect data regarding current, voltage, temperature and other environmental factors at the power source. The collected data is transmitted over a power line to a central analysis station for analysis. Data collected from each source indicates malfunction or degradation at the source. Comparison of data collected from adjacent sources filters for environmental factors impacting neighboring sources such as cloudy days for a solar panel. Comparison of data collected from the same source at different times indicates soiling or degradation of the source with time or periodic events such as a moving shade from an adjacent building.

Systems and methods for configuring, with an external device, a power distribution box having priority disconnects. The power distribution box includes a housing portion and a base portion elevating the housing portion. The power distribution box receives power from an external power source and distributes the power to a plurality of alternating current (AC) output receptacles. The power distribution box further includes an antenna and a power disconnect controller coupled to the antenna to communicate with and be configured by an external device, such as a smart phone, tablet, or laptop computer. Using the external device, a user can configure the priority level and mode of the AC output receptacles. In the case of high current, the power distribution box will disconnect receptacles in accordance with the priority level and mode configuration provided by the external device.
