Intravascular blood pump with external motor and centrifugal force-driven expansion of impeller blades and/or expandable and collapsible impeller housing
The present invention provides an intravascular blood pump system with an external motor and comprising an impeller housing and/or impeller blade(s) that may be expandable and collapsible. The blade(s) and/or impeller housing may be biased to expand or may be expanded by centrifugal forces generated during rotation of the impeller and blades an operatively connected rotational external motor.

EXPANDABLE INTRODUCER SHEATH FOR MEDICAL DEVICE
An introducer sheath for the insertion of a medical device into a blood vessel having an expandable sheath. The sheath has a length, a thickness, and proximal and distal ends. The expandable sheath has a frame extending longitudinally between the proximal and the distal ends, and having an exterior surface and an interior surface that forms an interior lumen along the length of the frame. The frame is configured to achieve an expanded state and a contracted state, the expanded state forming an expanded cross-section in the lumen for passing a medical device therethrough. The frame has a smooth coating about the exterior surface and protrusions extending into the lumen along the interior surface. The introducer sheath can be introduced into a patient in the contracted state, with the distal end of the introducer sheath prevented from moving in the proximal direction by an abutment against a dilator end surface.

Circulatory support device
A circulatory support device includes a flexible cannula having a fluid outlet at a proximal end; and a pump assembly disposed at a distal end of the flexible cannula. The pump assembly includes a pump housing having a fluid inlet defined therein; a motor disposed within a distal end of the housing; and an impeller, driven to rotate by the motor, and configured to push blood toward the fluid outlet.
INTRAVASCULAR BLOOD PUMP
An improved intravascular blood pump. Intravascular blood pumps using the present technology may be powered by an onboard motor unit configured to be located inside the patient's body, but which is separated from the pump unit by a flexible intermediate section housing a flexible drive shaft.

Method and Apparatus for Assisting a Heart
An apparatus for a heart of a patient having a cardiac assist device adapted to be implanted into the patient to assist the heart with pumping blood. The apparatus has a sensor adapted to be implanted into the patient. The sensor in communication with the cardiac assist device and the heart which measures native volume of the heart. Alternatively, the sensor monitors the heart based on admittance while the cardiac assist device. Alternatively, the sensor monitors the heart based on impedance.

Adjusting pump protocol based on irregular heart rhythm
The present invention generally relates to heart treatment systems. In some aspects, methods and systems are provided for facilitating communication between implanted devices. For example, an implantable cardiac rhythm management device may be configured to communicate with an implantable blood pump. The implantable cardiac rhythm management device may deliver heart stimulation rate information in addition to information associated with any detected abnormalities in heart function. In response, the pump may be configured to adjust pumping by the pump to better accommodate a patient's particular needs.
