Autoimmune mechanical immunomodulation
12121642 · 2024-10-22 · ·

The present disclosure describes a novel therapeutic apheresis system and, more specifically, methods and an apparatus for performing therapeutic apheresis. The disclosed system and methods for therapeutic apheresis modulate the immune system, thereby resulting in treatment of one or more underlying immunological disease processes. In some embodiments, the disclosed system and methods return at least a portion of blood from an extracorporeal circuit to a patient in pulsatile flow, where the portion of blood that is returned is augmented. In other embodiments, the disclosed methods and apparatus use the central arterial system to exchange volumes of plasma to immunomodulate disease processes. In addition, use of the disclosed system and methods reduces the amount of time spent by patients in therapeutic apheresis sessions and decreases patients' dependence on immunological drugs that may have detrimental adverse effects.

Provided herein is a gas exchange composite membrane and methods of making the same. The gas exchange composite membrane may find use in a method of exchanging gas with blood in a subject in need of blood oxygenation support, which method is also disclosed. Also provided herein are systems and kits that find use in performing the methods of exchanging gas with blood.

Rapid closing surgical closure device

A surgical or wound closure device utilizes a slide fastener for rapidly closing a surgical incision or wound with precise apposition of the sides of the incision. The surgical closure devices are configured for linear incisions, shaped incisions, such as used for wedge biopsy or excisional biopsy, and long incisions, such as used for laparotomy or surgical removal of redundant skin. The surgical closure device may be adhered to the patient's skin prior to making an incision and is subsequently used for closing the incision.

The present disclosure describes a novel therapeutic apheresis system and, more specifically, methods and an apparatus for performing therapeutic apheresis. The present disclosure provides highly efficient methods for therapeutic apheresis that modulate the immune system, thereby resulting in treatment of one or more underlying immunological disease processes. In some embodiments, the disclosed methods return at least a portion of blood from an extracorporeal circuit to a patient in pulsatile flow, where the portion of blood that is returned is augmented. In other embodiments, the disclosed methods and apparatus use the central arterial system to exchange volumes of plasma to immunomodulate disease processes. The disclosed methods combine concepts of intermittent flow and continuous flow therapeutic apheresis with established cardiovascular concepts. In addition, the disclosed methods reduce the amount of time spent by patients in therapeutic apheresis sessions and decrease patients' dependence on immunological drugs that may have detrimental adverse effects.

MEDICAL DEVICES WITH ANTITHROMBOGENIC COATINGS

Pressure sensing guidewires are disclosed. The pressure sensing guidewires may include a tubular member having a proximal portion and a distal portion. The distal portion may have a plurality of slots formed therein. The distal portion may have a first wall thickness along a first region and a second wall thickness smaller than the first wall thickness along a second region. A pressure sensor may be disposed within the distal portion of the tubular member and housed within the second region. An anti-thrombogenic coating may be disposed on an inner surface, an outer surface, or both of the second region of the distal portion of the tubular member.

Drive mechanism for a drug delivery device
09597460 · 2017-03-21 · ·

A drive mechanism for a drug delivery device having a rotationally fixed plunger rod driven by a lead screw. The lead screw engages a free lock which is coupled to a release knob. A dose setting dial cooperates with an inner cylinder using a clutch to establish the axial movement of the plunger rod during dose setting and dispensing.

System and method to increase the overall diameter of veins and arteries
09539380 · 2017-01-10 · ·

A system and method for increasing the speed of blood and the wall shear stress in a peripheral artery or peripheral vein to a sufficient level and for a sufficient period of time to result in a persistent increase in the overall diameter and lumen diameter of the artery or vein is provided. The method includes systems and methods to effect the movement of blood at the desired rate and in the desired direction. The movement of blood is monitored and adjusted, as necessary, to maintain the desired blood speed and wall shear stress in the peripheral artery or vein in order to optimize the rate and extent of persistent diameter increase of the peripheral artery or peripheral vein.

Flush syringe with flip cap

Flush syringe assemblies are described herein. Such flush syringe assembly may include a barrel including a side wall defining a chamber, a collar mounted on a distal wall of the barrel and surrounding an elongate tip. A cap may be attached to the collar via a hinge. The flush syringe assembly may also include a cap attached to the collar via a hinge. A ring may be disposed around the collar with a locking element that engages with a corresponding mating locking projection on the cap. The cap may include a slanted surface. The slanted surface of the cap may include one or more ribs made of an elastomeric material.

Multi-Chamber Syringe for Sequential Delivery of Fluids and Methods of Use
20250235615 · 2025-07-24 ·

A multi-chamber syringe for sequential expulsion of a first fluid followed by a second fluid includes a barrel, a first stopper, and a second stopper. The barrel includes a proximal end, a distal end having a fluid port, and a sidewall. The first stopper including a channel is slidably positioned in the barrel, such that a first chamber configured to contain the first fluid is provided between the distal end of the barrel and the first stopper. The second stopper is slidably positioned in the barrel proximal to the first stopper, such that a second chamber configured to contain the second fluid is provided between the first stopper and the second stopper. Rotation of the first stopper relative to the syringe barrel establishes fluid communication between the second chamber and the first chamber through the channel of the first stopper.
