Multistage amplifier linearization in a radio frequency system
A linearization circuit reduces intermodulation distortion in an amplifier that includes a first stage and a second stage. The linearization circuit receives a first signal that includes a first frequency and a second frequency and generates a difference signal having a frequency approximately equal to the difference of the first frequency and the second frequency, generates an envelope signal based at least in part on a power level of the first signal, and adjusts a magnitude of the difference signal based on the envelope signal. When the amplifier receives the first signal at an input terminal, the first stage receives the adjusted signal, and the second stage does not receive the adjusted signal, intermodulation between the adjusted signal and the first signal cancels at least a portion of the intermodulation between the first frequency and the second frequency from the output of the amplifier.

When the amplifier receives the first signal at an input terminal and the adjusted signal at a second terminal, intermodulation between the adjusted signal and the first signal cancels at least a portion of the intermodulation products that result from the intermodulation of the first frequency and the second frequency.
CREST FACTOR REDUCTION IN POWER AMPLIFIER CIRCUITS
Techniques are described for crest factor reduction in power amplifier circuits. For example, crest factor reduction can keep the peak signal level of a signal for transmission to below a peak threshold level associated with a power amplifier in the transmission path. The signal is received by the crest factor reduction system and clipped in accordance with the peak threshold level. Edge smoothing is then applied to the clipped signal to reduce out-of-band emissions. The edge smoothing is implemented by a moving average filter, such as a time-domain box filter. In some embodiments, a maximum operation or minimum operation is used to prevent signal peak regrowth after the filtering. Some embodiments also include various iteration loops to further improve crest factor reduction.
Phased array amplifier linearization
Apparatus and methods provide predistortion for a phased array. Radio frequency (RF) sample signals from phased array elements are provided along return paths and are combined by a hardware RF combiner. Phase shifters are adjusted such that the RF sample signals are phase-aligned when combined. Adaptive adjustment of predistortion for the amplifiers of the phased array can be based on a signal derived from the combined RF sample signals.
LINEAR AMPLIFYING DEVICE, INPUT SIGNAL SUPPLYING METHOD, AND ORIGIN AVOIDING CIRCUIT USED THEREIN
Ringing of a signal after passing through a low pass filter in an LINC type linear amplifier is remedied. A linear amplifying device includes the linear amplifier including the low pass filter for removing high-frequency components; and an origin avoiding circuit which receives an original input signal and is provided upstream of the linear amplifier. If the original input signal is sampled in the vicinity of an origin, the origin avoiding circuit modifies a sampled value so at to replace the sampled value with a fixed value, and supplies the modified input signal to the linear amplifier.
