Device and method for detecting blood or blood constituents in the liquid system of a device for extracorporeal blood treatment
The present invention relates to an apparatus for dialysis treatment which has device(s) for balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid. The present invention also relates to a method of balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid. The apparatus and method according to the present invention for balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid are characterized in that the individual balancing chambers of the balancing system receive both fresh dialysis fluid and used dialysis fluid, the functions of the balancing chambers being alternately interchanged. In this way, exact balancing can be achieved even when the volumes of the individual chambers differ from one another. Over the period of the treatment as a whole, the differences between the volumes balance each other out due to the cyclic interchange of the chambers.
Aerosol generating system having means for determining depletion of a liquid substrate
There is provided an electrically operated aerosol generating system for receiving an aerosol-forming substrate. The system includes a liquid storage portion for storing liquid aerosol-forming substrate, an electric heater including at least one heating element for heating the liquid aerosol-forming substrate, and electric circuitry for determining depletion of liquid aerosol-forming substrate heated by the heater based on a relationship between a temperature of the heating element and power applied to the heating element. There is also provided a method in an electrically operated aerosol generating system including a liquid storage portion for storing liquid aerosol-forming substrate and an electric heater including at least one heating element for heating the liquid aerosol-forming substrate, the method including determining depletion of liquid aerosol-forming substrate heated by the heater based on a relationship between a temperature of the heating element and power applied to the heating element.
Method and apparatus for preparing and monitoring an intravenous fluid bag
An intravenous (IV) fluid monitoring system and method are provided to facilitate notification that a replacement IV fluid bag should be prepared. In this regard, an IV fluid monitoring system includes a bag sensing element carried by an IV fluid bag. The IV fluid monitoring system further includes first and second sensing elements positioned on opposite sides of the IV fluid bag and configured to interact with the bag sensing element. The first and second sensing elements are physically separate from the IV fluid bag. The bag sensing element and the first and second elements are positioned such that a line of sight between at least the first sensing element and the bag sensing element extends through the IV fluid within the IV fluid bag while the IV fluid bag is in a filled state. A method and apparatus are also provided to facilitate preparation of an IV fluid bag.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING LIQUID LEVEL IN A CLEAR OR PARTIALLY CLEAR CONTAINER
A trap bowl is provided to accumulate liquid droplets from a filter, as a liquid content. The trap bowl includes a transparent vertical prism. The transparent vertical prism includes a face that forms a vertical transparent surface facing against a content of the section. The face can provide a first angle of total reflection when content of the section is a type of gas, and a second angle of total reflection when the content of the section is the liquid content. A light source may emit a light beam incident on the face at an angle of incidence. The angle of incidence results in reflection of the light beam, striking the light receiver, when the face has the first angle of total reflection, and results in refraction of the light beam, missing the light receiver, when the face has the second angle of total reflection.
FORCE SENSING RESISTOR FOR LIQUID LOW-VOLUME DETECTION AND OCCLUSION SENSING AND METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR FLOW SENSING ALONG FLUID PATH IN FLUID DELIVERY DEVICE
A system and method is provided for detecting fluid low-volume and occlusion in a device using force sensing resistor (FSR) sensor. One or more force sensing resistors are positioned in communication with a fluid channel at one or more of a pump intake and pump outlet to detect pressure in the fluid channel. The pressure is detected through communication with the force sensing resistor and indicates an irregular system condition including but not limited to, fluid low-volume level and occlusion. Also provided are a fluid flow sensor (e.g., FSR or MEMS sensor) disposed relative to an embedded fluid channel in the base of a wearable medicine delivery pump.
HUMIDIFIED GASES DELIVERY APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING SAME
The invention relates to a method of determining water level in a humidifier chamber that is part of a humidified gases delivery apparatus and system. The method comprising the steps of delivering power to a heater plate, varying the power delivered to the heater plate, measuring the rate of change of temperature and determining the level of water based on the heating characteristics of the volume of water within the chamber, in particular determining the level of water within the chamber based on the rate of change of temperature and the supplied power.
DIALYSIS MACHINE
A disposable cartridge for use in a hemodialysis machine has a blood flow path for carrying a volume of blood to be treated in a dialyser and a dialysate flow path, isolated from the blood flow path, for delivering a flow of dialysate solution through the dialyser. The cartridge is received in an engine section of the machine. The engine section has first and second platens which close when the cartridge is inserted to retain the cartridge. Actuators and sensors arranged on the second platen control operation of the cartridge.
Patient Ventilator Control Using Constant Flow and Breathing Triggers
The embodied invention is a new inspiration/expiration ventilator flow design, with a constant inspiration flow and intermittent-concurrent expiratory flow based on lung pressure setpoints. This mode is possible by using a new dual lumen tube inserted into a patient Trachea. Additionally, the control provides support for patient initiated breathing which is initiated by a lung pressure drop. This control provides continuous and gentle recruitment of lung alveoli.
System and method for monitoring filling status of a vaporizer reservoir in an anesthetic vaporizer system
An anesthetic vaporizer system includes a reservoir containing anesthetic agent, an agent level sensor measuring an agent level of the anesthetic agent in the reservoir, a display, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive agent level measurements from the agent level sensor over a time period, and determine the anesthetic agent is being added to the reservoir from an agent source based on the agent level measurements over the time period. A filling status is determined based on the agent level measurements and a filling status indicator is displayed based on the determined filling status.
