A medical device system. The system includes a first medical device, a first remote interface, and a second remote interface in communication with the first remote interface and the first medical device, wherein the first medical device sends a command to the first medical device through the second remote interface, and wherein when the second remote interface receives the command, the command must be confirmed by the second remote interface before the command is send by the second remote interface to the first medical device.

Detecting leakage when heating a perishable dielectric load

A cartridge holds a perishable dielectric load, e.g. blood plasma, during heating n a heating chamber by means of an electromagnetic field from an emitting element. A conducting container of the cartridge is arranged between the emitting element and the perishable dielectric load. The conducting container holds dielectric matter and is arranged in contact with a load container for the perishable dielectric load, so that energy from the electromagnetic field is bridged into the perishable dielectric load. A first surface of the cartridge faces the emitting element and contains a recess for receiving any fluid having leaked out from the conducting container and/or the load container. A transmitter module for generating the electromagnetic energy repeatedly measures an impedance of the perishable dielectric load and the conducting container. If, due to any fluid being located in the recess, the impedance deviates substantially from a previous measurement, an alarm signal is generated.

Provided herein are methods of nerve blockage, for example for treatment of obesity, heart failure, cardiovascular disease, muscle spasms, chronic pain, or urinary retention in a patient. The method comprises first heating a nerve above physiological temperature (e.g. 37 C. in a human), such as from 43 C. to 54 C. for a duration that leads to reversible nerve blockage as opposed to nerve damage. Second, reversible nerve blockage is produced by cooling the nerve below physiological temperature to a temperature in which reversible nerve blockage is achieved, for example from 15 C. to 30 C.

APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR COMPRESSING A WOMAN'S BREAST TO EXPRESS MILK

Systems for expressing milk from a human breast are provided herein. Such systems can include a compression device having multiple fingers configured to at least partially surround a breast and apply pressure to a major portion of a breast without applying pressure to a remainder portion, thereby activating milk ducts within the breast. The fingers can be configured to apply pressure to an inferior portion and one or more lateral portions of the breast, without applying direct pressure to a superior portion. The fingers can be configured to apply pressure to a superior portion and one or more lateral portions of the breast, without applying direct pressure to an inferior portion. The fingers of the compression device can be configured to apply pressure to a superior portion, an inferior portion, and a first lateral portion of the breast, without applying direct pressure to a second lateral portion of the breast.
