APPARATUS FOR EXCHANGING MATERIAL BETWEEN BLOOD AND A GAS/GAS MIXTURE
The invention relates to an apparatus for exchanging material between blood and a gas/gas mixture, comprising a chamber (1) through which blood can flow and in which a plurality of material-permeable fiber tubes is provided, the gas/gas mixture being flowable through the fiber tubes, blood being flowable around the fiber tubes. At least one deformable element (9) is provided in the chamber (1) in addition to the fiber tubes, through which the gas/gas mixture can flow, this deformable element being deformable and restorable, in particular compressible out of a relaxed shape and restorable to a relaxed shape by pressure fluctuations acting on the at least one element (9) externally, in particular pressure fluctuations transmitted by the blood in the chamber (1).
Filter system for use in medical devices
A medical hand-held device, in particular an atomizer, for dispensing a liquid pharmaceutical preparation from a container with a discharge nozzle for the pharmaceutical preparation and located upstream from the discharge nozzle there is a multiple-stage filter system.
CLOCK MECHANISM FLOW REGULATOR
An automatic injection device with flow regulation is disclosed. The automatic injection device has an insertion needle configured to be inserted into a patient and a drug container which contains a pharmaceutical product and includes a plunger. The automatic injection needle also has a fluid path which fluidly connects the drug container to the patient via an insertion device, a potential energy source, and a regulator configured to restrict release of potential energy and restrict linear movement of the plunger and the pharmaceutical product into the fluid path at a proscribed pace. The regulator includes a clock escapement mechanism. The potential energy source may be a spring that surrounds the drug container and may be magnetically coupled to the plunger. The clock escapement mechanism is configured to control the spring at a regulated rate over a time interval using a gearbox and rotational-to-linear translator comprising a rack and a pinion.
INJECTION DEVICE WITH DISENGAGEMENT FEATURE AND METHOD FOR DISENGAGING A PLUNGER FROM A POWER SOURCE
An injection device comprises a housing, a cartridge defining a chamber configured to hold a medicament, a plunger disposed within the chamber, and a plunger actuation assembly configured to drive the plunger. The injection device also comprises a power source configured to drive the plunger actuation assembly such that the plunger forces the medicament from the chamber a first disengagement element translationally fixed relative to the plunger actuation assembly, and a second disengagement element coupled to the plunger actuation assembly and to the power source, where the second disengagement element is translationally fixed relative to the plunger actuation assembly. The first disengagement element is configured to translationally decouple from the plunger actuation assembly when the power source drives the plunger actuation assembly a first distance, and translationally decouple the second disengagement element from the plunger actuation assembly when the power source drives the plunger actuation assembly a second distance.
FLUID DELIVERY APPARATUS HAVING A CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF USE
A method for administering a medicament suitable for treating a migraine or cluster headache to a patient in need thereof includes placing a mounting surface of a fluid delivery apparatus with the medicament in contact with at least a portion of the skin of said patient. A flow rate of the medicament from the fluid delivery apparatus is adjusted such that the medicament is delivered to the patient for at least a predetermined time period. The fluid delivery apparatus includes a controller assembly having a body component defining an axis and a plunger component slidably coupled to the body component. The plunger is positionable between a first position in which the plunger is nearest to the body component and a second position in which the plunger component is furthest from the body component. A bias assembly is positioned between the body component and the plunger component. The bias assembly is configured to apply a two stage force profile to the plunger component. Also disclosed is a method for administering sumatriptan to a patient in need thereof such that the C.sub.max, T.sub.max and AUC are within predetermined, therapeutically effective values.
Variable volume infusion port
A variable volume infusion port is provided. The infusion port may include a port body having an internal fluid reservoir, a septum, a stem to fluidly couple to a catheter lumen, and a displaceable member disposed in the internal fluid reservoir. In a first position, the displaceable member is disposed proximate the septum, providing a relatively small fluid volume within the infusion port. Insertion of an injection device through the septum causes the displaceable member to move to a second location distal from the septum, providing a relatively large fluid volume within the infusion port for the duration the injection device remains in the infusion port. The displaceable member may include a rigid member operably coupled to a biasing element or a flexible member coupled to a biasing element.
ARRANGEMENT FOR AEROSOL DISPENSER, AEROSOL DISPENSER AND METHOD
An arrangement for activating an aerosol dispenser having a conveying tube for conveying a liquid; a movable holding member holding the conveying tube; a rotatable base; and a container chamber between the holding member and the base, wherein the arrangement is configured to transmit a loading rotation of the base to a substantially axial loading movement of the holding member towards the base, and wherein the holding member has a locking structure exposed to the container chamber. An aerosol dispenser having the arrangement and a method for activating an aerosol dispenser are also provided.
TENSIONING ARRANGEMENT FOR AEROSOL DISPENSER AND AEROSOL DISPENSER
A tensioning arrangement for an aerosol dispenser is presented where the tensioning arrangement has a conveying tube; an elastic member arranged to store mechanical energy from a substantially axial tensioning movement of the conveying tube; a rotatable member; a transmission mechanism configured to transmit a tensioning rotation of the rotatable member to the tensioning movement of the conveying tube, wherein the transmission mechanism has a cam profile and a cam follower arranged to follow the cam profile, wherein the cam profile has at least one priming structure; and wherein the tensioning arrangement is configured such that the conveying tube makes a temporary priming movement towards an initial position when the cam follower passes each priming structure during the tensioning movement of the conveying tube by means of the tensioning rotation of the rotatable member. An aerosol dispenser is also provided.
NASAL DELIVERY DEVICES
A nasal delivery device for and a method of delivering substance to a nasal airway of a subject, the nasal delivery device comprising: a mouthpiece (519) through which the subject in use exhales to cause closure of the oropharyngeal velum of the subject; a nosepiece (517) for fitting to a nostril of a subject, the nosepiece including a nozzle (549) through which substance is in use delivered to the nasal airway; and a manually-actuatable substance supply unit (520) for delivering substance through the nozzle of the nosepiece.
