AUDIO SYSTEM WITH COMPRESSOR SIDECHAIN FREQUENCY-BIASING FILTER FOR SWITCHED-MODE POWER SUPPLY OVERBOOST ENERGY UTILIZATION
20220376668 · 2022-11-24 ·

An audio system has an amplifier for driving an audio actuator and includes a switched-mode power supply that draws power from a power source (e.g., battery) to supply power to the amplifier, a capacitor charged by the switched-mode power supply to supply power to the amplifier, and a feed-forward compressor that performs dynamic range compression of an audio input to provide an audio output for amplification by the amplifier. The compressor includes a sidechain frequency-biasing filter that generates a frequency-biased version of the audio input that is attenuated as frequency increases which causes the compressor to decrease the compression as frequency increases. A control block limits current drawn from the battery by the switched-mode power supply independent of audio input frequency, but the frequency-biasing filter enables the amplifier to service audio power transients greater than the current-limited power supply can supply by advantageously concurrently sourcing extra power from the capacitor.

A leveling equalizer includes a graphic equalizer circuit, a first multiplication circuit, a second multiplication circuit, an addition circuit, and a gain control circuit. The graphic equalizer circuit processes a first input signal and output a first output signal and a second output signal. The first multiplication circuit multiplies the first output signal and one of an adjustable gain value and a fixed gain value to generate a first adjusted output signal. The second multiplication circuit multiplies the second output signal and another of the adjustable gain value and the fixed gain value to generate a second adjusted output signal. The addition circuit combines the first adjusted output signal and the second adjusted output signal to generate an equalizer output signal. The gain control circuit dynamically adjusts the adjustable gain value according to the equalizer output signal.

Multiple sound source encoding in hearing prostheses

Presented herein are techniques for enhancing a hearing prosthesis recipient's perception of multiple frequencies present in received sound signals. The hearing prosthesis is configured to extract a plurality of frequencies from the received sound signals and to use the plurality of frequencies to modulate the amplitudes of different stimulation pulse sequences that are to be delivered to the recipient via different stimulation channels. The hearing prosthesis may also adapt a stimulation resolution of the stimulation pulse sequences when delivering the modulated stimulation pulses sequences to the recipient.

Some implementations involve receiving a content stream that includes audio data, receiving at least one type of level adjustment indication relating to playback of the audio data and controlling a level of the input audio data, based on the at least one type of level adjustment indication, to produce level-adjusted audio data. Some examples involve determining, based at least in part on the type(s) of level adjustment indication, a multiband limiter configuration, applying the multiband limiter to the level-adjusted audio data, to produce multiband limited audio data and providing the multiband limited audio data to one or more audio reproduction transducers of an audio environment.

Multichannel audio enhancement, decoding, and rendering in response to feedback

In some embodiments, a method for performing at least one of enhancement, decoding, or rendering of a multichannel audio signal in response to compression feedback or feedback from a smart amplifier. For example, the compression feedback may be indicative of amount of compression applied to each of multiple frequency bands, of the audio signal or an enhanced audio signal generated in response thereto. The enhancement (e.g., bass enhancement) may include dynamic routing of audio content of the input audio signal between channels of an enhanced audio signal generated in response thereto. The enhancement and compression may be performed on a per speaker class basis. Other aspects are systems (e.g., programmed processors) and devices (e.g., devices having physically-limited bass reproduction capabilities, such as, for example, a notebook or laptop computer, tablet, soundbar, mobile phone, or other device with small speakers) configured to perform any embodiment of the method.
