Loudspeaker excursion protection

An apparatus and method of excursion protection of a loudspeaker. The method includes attenuating selected bands in a transform domain, controlled by a feedback signal resulting from an excursion transfer function that has been modified according to the real-time operational characteristics of the loudspeaker. In this manner, the system reduces the amount of wideband attenuation needed to address the predicted excursion, resulting in a better listening experience.

MULTIPLE SOUND SOURCE ENCODING IN HEARING PROSTHESES

Presented herein are techniques for enhancing a hearing prosthesis recipient's perception of multiple frequencies present in received sound signals. The hearing prosthesis is configured to extract a plurality of frequencies from the received sound signals and to use the plurality of frequencies to modulate the amplitudes of different stimulation pulse sequences that are to be delivered to the recipient via different stimulation channels. The hearing prosthesis may also adapt a stimulation resolution of the stimulation pulse sequences when delivering the modulated stimulation pulses sequences to the recipient.

Loudness enhancement based on multiband range compression

In some examples, loudness enhancement based on multiband range compression may include determining, based on variations in compression parameters that include compression thresholds and compression ratios, corresponding variations in loudness levels for a specified loudness standard. A learning model may be trained based on the variations in the compression parameters and the corresponding variations in the loudness levels. A specified loudness level for a device may be ascertained, for example, from a user of the device. The compression parameters for the specified loudness level may be determined based on the trained learning model. Further, sub-band compression of an input audio signal may be performed, based on the determined compression parameters, by processing the input audio signal using a perfect reconstruction filterbank.

DISTORTION REDUCING MULTI-BAND COMPRESSOR WITH DYNAMIC THRESHOLDS BASED ON SCENE SWITCH ANALYZER GUIDED DISTORTION AUDIBILITY MODEL
20210343308 · 2021-11-04 · ·

The present application relates to a method, system, and computer program product of dynamically adjusting thresholds of a compressor responsive to an input audio signal. A scene switch analyzer receives an input audio signal having a plurality of frequency band components. The scene switch analyzer determines whether a scene switch has occurred in the input audio signal. The frequency band components of the input audio signal are processed. In response to determine that scene switch has not occurred, a distortion audibility system applies slow smoothing to compressor thresholds of the frequency band components. In response to determine that scene switch has occurred, the distortion audibility system applies fast smoothing or no smoothing to the compressor thresholds of the frequency band components.

Method for dynamically adjusting adjustable gain value to equalize input signal to generate equalizer output signal and associated leveling equalizer

A leveling equalizer includes a graphic equalizer circuit, a first multiplication circuit, a second multiplication circuit, an addition circuit, and a gain control circuit. The graphic equalizer circuit processes a first input signal and output a first output signal and a second output signal. The first multiplication circuit multiplies the first output signal and one of an adjustable gain value and a fixed gain value to generate a first adjusted output signal. The second multiplication circuit multiplies the second output signal and another of the adjustable gain value and the fixed gain value to generate a second adjusted output signal. The addition circuit combines the first adjusted output signal and the second adjusted output signal to generate an equalizer output signal. The gain control circuit dynamically adjusts the adjustable gain value according to the equalizer output signal.

METHODS FOR REDUCING ERROR IN ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE COMPENSATION SYSTEMS

Some noise compensation methods involve receiving microphone signals corresponding to ambient noise from a noise source location in or near an audio environment, determining or estimating a listener position in the audio environment and estimating at least one critical distance, which is a distance from the noise source location at which directly propagated sound pressure is equal to diffuse field sound pressure. Some examples involve estimating whether the listener position is within the at least one critical distance and implementing a noise compensation method for the ambient noise based, at least in part, on an estimate of whether the listener position is within the critical distance.
