20190374755 · 2019-12-12 ·

An apparatus includes a shaft, an expandable dilation member, and a bulbous tip. The shaft has a first outer cross-sectional dimension. The dilation member is positioned proximal to the distal end of the shaft. The dilation member is operable to transition between a non-expanded configuration and an expanded configuration. The dilation member is sized to pass through a passageway associated with drainage of a paranasal sinus or a Eustachian tube when the dilation member is in the non-expanded configuration. The bulbous tip is positioned at the distal end of the shaft. The bulbous tip is distal to the dilation member. The bulbous tip has a second outer cross-sectional dimension. The second outer cross-sectional dimension is larger than the first outer cross-sectional dimension. The bulbous tip is removably secured to the distal end of the shaft.

A dilation system includes a handle, a guide member, a balloon dilation member, an actuator, and an endoscope. The handle is configured to provide single-handed use to a user. The guide member is coupled with a distal end of the handle and extends distally therefrom. The balloon dilation member is slidably disposed within the body and the guide member and includes an expandable balloon. The actuator is configured to translate and/or rotate to thereby cause translation and/or rotation of the balloon dilation member. The handle may include a guide member actuator configured to cause translation of the guide member. The handle may further include a rotation mechanism configured to impart rotation upon the guide member. The handle may also include a housing configured to receive and selectively retain the endoscope. The housing is configured to translate and/or rotate to thereby cause translation and/or rotation of the endoscope.

DILATION CATHETER TIP REMOVAL INSTRUMENT

An apparatus includes a base housing, an actuator, and a blade. The base housing defines an upwardly presented support surface. The base housing also defines a distally oriented tip receiving recess. The distally oriented tip receiving recess is sized and configured to receive a bulbous distal tip of a dilation catheter. The actuator is movably coupled with the base housing. The blade us secured to the actuator. The actuator is operable to move the blade downwardly relative to the base housing. The blade is configured to sever a portion of a dilation catheter along a plane longitudinally interposed between the support surface and the tip receiving recess to thereby sever the bulbous distal tip of the dilation catheter in response to movement of the actuator relative to the base housing.

MEDICAL INSTRUMENT WITH INTEGRAL NAVIGATION CONTROL FEATURES

Variations of integral navigation controls may be used in conjunction with a medical instrument to provide navigation functions for an image guided surgery (IGS) system that is in communication with the integral navigation controls. In some variations, a medical instrument with integrated navigation wheels allows movement of a cursor of the IGS system along the x and y axis by scrolling the wheel, or allows selection, zooming, or other controls by combined clicking and/or scrolling of wheels, and may be sterilized or discarded along with the device. In some other variations, a control overlay may be temporarily attached to the medical instrument to provide additional controls, such as buttons or a pointing stick, and then removed and sterilized or discarded after a procedure. In each variation, inputs may be communicated via wire or wirelessly to an IGS system to provide navigation of images during a surgical procedure.

Drug-coated balloon

Described here are devices, systems, and methods for treating conditions or diseases of the nose, ear, or throat with an expandable device having a drug coating. The expandable devices may be delivered to a body cavity in a low-profile configuration and expanded to contact surrounding tissue. The expandable devices may deliver or release the drug coating to the tissue. Multiple expansions of a single device may be employed during treatment. Various coating excipients and manufacturing parameters for the expandable devices may also be adjusted to enhance or slow transfer of the drug coating and/or release of the drug to the target tissue site. The drug transferred to the tissue may act as an in situ depot that enables maintenance of a therapeutic level of locally delivered drug for a desired time period after removal of the expandable devices.

DEVICE, SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TREATING A EUSTACHIAN TUBE
20190274886 · 2019-09-12 · ·

A treatment system including a therapy device for treating soft tissue inflammation of the ear. The device includes an inflation fluid supply tube, an inner member, and a balloon. The inflation fluid supply tube has an inflation lumen extending longitudinally therethrough and an opening disposed between opposing first and second ends. The inner member is formed of a shape memory material and defines distal, proximal, and center portions. The center portion extends longitudinally within the inflation fluid supply tube. The distal portion extends distally from the first end and the proximal portion extends through the opening. A lumen of the inner member is fluidly open at and between distal and proximal ends. The balloon is disposed along the distal portion, and is fluidly coupled to the inflation lumen. A tracking device for image guided navigation can be attached to the distal portion of the inner member.

A device for dilating an Eustachian tube of a patient including an inner member, an inflation fluid supply tube, a balloon, and a coupler. The inner member includes a lumen fluidly open at distal and proximal ends. The inner member has a distal portion, a proximal portion, and a central portion. The inflation fluid supply tube is fixedly disposed around the central. The inflation fluid supply tube has an opening disposed between first and second ends. A proximal portion of the inner member extends through the opening and the opening is fluidly sealed against an exterior surface of the inner member. The coupler is configured to selectively couple the inflation fluid supply tube to an endoscope. The coupler is configured to engage against an exterior surface of the inflation fluid supply tube. The coupler is disposable between the first end and the opening of the inflation fluid supply tube.

THERAPEUTIC DEVICE FOR TREATMENT OF CONDITIONS RELATING TO THE SINUSES, NASAL CAVITIES, EAR, NOSE AND THROAT

A therapeutic device for treating conditions of a user's nasal cavities, sinuses, and/or ear canals includes a housing which the user may hold to apply the therapeutic device to the user, the housing including an inlet that allows air to enter the therapeutic device. An acoustic vibrator located within the housing provides an acoustic vibration to the user, and a power supply located within the housing provides power to the acoustic vibrator. A mask is connected to the housing and includes a nasal interface that is appliable around the nose of the user. A valve of the mask opens to allow the user to breathe through the inlet and closes to prevent the user from exhaling through the inlet. The mask further includes a diaphragm and a nasal cavity in which a user's nostrils are located when the nasal interface is applied to the user.
