A signal processing system is described. The signal processing system includes at least one signal processing path and a control module. The at least one signal processing path includes at least one signal input and at least two filter units. The at least two filter units include at least one hardware filter unit. The at least one signal input is connectable to at least one external electronic component. The control module is connected to the signal input and to the at least two hardware filter units. The control module is configured to determine a frequency response deviation being associated with the at least one external electronic component. The control module further is configured to reconfigure the at least one hardware filter unit such that the frequency response deviation is compensated at least partially. Further, a signal processing method for adapting filter coefficients of a signal processing system is described.

The control method includes: acquiring a target amplitude characteristic, a target phase characteristic, and a latency value; obtaining a first frequency response in accordance with the target amplitude characteristic and the target phase characteristic; obtaining a second frequency response by modifying the first frequency response so that a latency of the second frequency response satisfies the latency value; and obtaining a third frequency response to be set for the filter by correcting the second frequency response, the second frequency response being corrected so as to reduce a difference between (i) an amplitude characteristic of the second frequency response and (ii) the target amplitude characteristic.

The techniques could be part of a signal cueing system that initiates signal detection, separation and tracking or a signal separation and tracking system which is initialized by the cueing system and adaptively updates frequency and bandwidth estimates so as to continuously separate and track signals after initial detection. The methodology is to train the filter responses using machine learning by creating a grid of training data based on signal examples that cover a span of frequencies and bandwidths. The system estimates frequency and bandwidth in real time, inputs those estimates into interpolating lookup tables to retrieve filter coefficients, and provides those filter coefficients to a tunable tracking filter.
