Analog-to-digital converters employing continuous-time chaotic internal circuits to maximize resolution-bandwidth product—CT TurboADC
An analog-to-digital conversion devices and methods that approach a linear relationship between resolution and oversampling rate. The process involves modulating an input analog signals with an essentially chaotic encoding signal that is deterministic, aperiodic in that it lacks spectral tones above a threshold, and bounded. The resulting encoded signal is quantized into a bit stream and decoded by applying to that bit stream a non-linear estimation related to said chaotic signal to thereby produce an output representing said input analog signal in digital form.
Flash analog to digital converter
A flash analog to digital converter includes a voltage generator circuit, an encoder circuit, and first and second double differential amplifier circuits. The voltage generator circuit generates reference voltages according to first and second voltages. The encoder circuit generates a digital signal corresponding to an input signal according to first signals. The first double differential amplifier circuit compares the input signal with a first reference voltage in the reference voltages, to generate a corresponding one of the first signals. The second double differential amplifier circuit compares the input signal with a second reference voltage in the reference voltages, to generate a corresponding one of the first signals. A difference between the first voltage and the first reference voltage is less than that between the first voltage and the second reference voltage, and the first and the second double differential amplifier circuits have different circuit architectures.
Delay folding system and method
A system for converting a voltage into output codes includes logic gates for processing delay signals based on earlier and later arriving signals generated by preamplifiers, delay comparators for generating digital signals representative of most significant bits of respective codes, and for transmitting delay residue signals representative of less significant bits of the codes, and an auxiliary delay comparator for generating an auxiliary digital signal for use in generating the output codes. A system may include logic gates for generating delay signals based on earlier and later arriving signals, delay comparators for generating digital signals representative of most significant bits of respective codes, and for transmitting delay residue signals representative of less significant bits, and a multiplexer system for transmitting a selected one of the residue signals.
SEMICONDUCTOR INTEGRATED CIRCUIT AND ANALOG-TO-DIGITAL CONVERTER
A semiconductor integrated circuit has a digital signal generator that generates a binary signal whose logic transitions at a timing according to a discharge amount of a second wiring which is discharged when multiplication data of first data stored in a memory cell and second data on a first wiring is a first logic; and a transition timing detector that detects a timing at which the logic of the binary signal transitions.

An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) including: a signal input adapted to receive an analog signal; a first reference voltage input adapted to receive a first reference voltage; a second reference voltage input adapted to receive a second reference voltage, the second reference voltage is different than the first reference voltage; a first delay circuit having a first delay input coupled to the signal input, a second delay input coupled to the first reference voltage input, a first delay output and a second delay output; a second delay circuit having a third delay input coupled to the signal input, a fourth delay input coupled to the second reference voltage input; a third delay output and a fourth delay output; a first comparator having a first comparator input coupled to the first delay output, a second comparator input coupled to the second delay output and a first comparator output; and a second comparator having a third comparator input coupled to the third delay output, a fourth comparator input coupled to the fourth delay output and a second comparator output.
Background calibration of non-linearity of samplers and amplifiers in ADCs
Analog circuits are often non-linear, and the non-linearities can hurt performance. Designers would trade off power consumption to achieve better linearity. An efficient and effective calibration technique can address the non-linearities and reduce the overall power consumption. A dither signal injected to the analog circuit can be used to expose the non-linear behavior in the digital domain. To detect the non-linearities, a counting approach is applied to isolate non-linearities independent of the input distribution. The approach is superior to and different from other approaches in many ways.
Digitally enhanced digital-to-analog converter resolution
Described herein are apparatus and methods for digitally enhancing digital-to-analog converter (DAC) resolution. A digitally enhanced DAC includes a decoder circuit configured to convert a N-bit input data to at least N code bits, a digital enhancement circuit configured to logically operate on a least significant bit (LSB) of the N-bit data, and a switching network including at least N DAC unit elements, where a least significant DAC unit element is controlled by the digital enhancement circuit to output a factored nominal current or voltage when a logical operation outputs a defined logic level for the LSB and to output a nominal current or voltage absent output of the defined logic level and a remaining DAC unit elements are controlled by a remaining code bits of the at least N code bits. This provides a N+1 bit resolution for the DAC without increasing the at least N DAC unit elements.

Discrete dither
Quantisation methods are provided which employ dither techniques to reduce the noise penalty in certain circumstances whilst still removing noise modulation. One method relates to reducing the wordwidth of audio by one bit, while another method relates to burying one bit of data in a pair of signal samples.
Optical encoder and interpolation circuit and operating method thereof
There is provided an interpolation circuit of an optical encoder including a phase shifter circuit, two multiplexers, two digital circuits and four comparators. The phase shifter circuit receives signals sequentially have a 90 degrees phase shift and outputs multiple phase shifted signals. Each of the two multiplexers receives a half of the multiple phase shifted signals and outputs two pairs of phase shifted signals, each pair having 180 degrees phase difference, respectively to two comparators connected thereto. Each of the two digital circuits controls the corresponding multiplexer to select the two pairs of phase shifted signals from the half of the multiple phase shifted signals.
